When slapping PD on a ship, should I make the lasers 5cm or add a bit of beef to them?

What about dedicated escort vessels?

PD weapons should always be minimum size, because any damage at all will take out most missiles.

It can be useful to use bigger weapons for PD just for the range. With enough range and/or bad enough enemy missiles, you might be able to get more then one salvo at the missiles. Or if you want to use it as a standard gun as well.

Okay, one semilegal question here:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Apart from wasting money on it, that is.

Any answers?

Also, I just successfully duplicated the issue. As soon as I reclaimed my colony, it was marked as hostile, and a second, new colony was spawned. IDK what is going on, but I don't want to delete this one. Do 'conquered' colonies ever stop generating unrest?

Yes, their status move slowly until they are an imperial population.

If it's something you use regularly then it's not wasting money if you buy it - that's the whole point of nagware. If you don't use it enough to mind the nags then it's free, if you do then you really should pay for it.

So.... there's my suggestion. Put up with the nags or pay up.

As for the colonies, eventually they get fully integrated into your empire. It takes a while (not sure how long, exactly).

Eh, I found an easier solution for the colony. As it is only 2m people and a few installations, I'm just going to transfer them all over to the "new" colony and then delete the old one.

Also: LOL THEY WANT 12.50 FOR A DESKTOP SCROLLER. Yeah, not happening.

The point is that I only use it for three windows in one game, which is maybe 0.01% of the time I spend on my computer, and that the nags regularly interrupt the other 99.99% of what I do. If it weren't for the fact that there is no other way I know of to fix the resolution issue, I would delete it in a heartbeat. Also of note is that it constantly runs in the background, similar to hamachi, which absolutely pisses me off.

I've tried to get desktop360 as well, but their site never loads, and I don't have an XP disc, so I can't resize my resolution because MS is retarded. And I don't really have the space or cash to get another monitor to run Aurora, kind of like how I don't see the point spending money to get a desktop extender that will constantly eat up resources just so I can see the bottom row of buttons on three windows. I love this game, but frankly, I don't love it enough to bend over backwards just to be able to play it properly.

End the process via the task manager and tell your computer not to boot it up at launch. That's about all I can suggest.

Glad to know I'm not the only one who got ticked off at Hamachi for keeping its foot in the door, metaphorically speaking.
When you end it via task manager it automatically boots itself. It's annoying.

Yep. Also, going to give ResizeEnable another shot. I tried it once and couldn't get it to work, but it doesn't have nag popups, is free, and is really my last option if I want to play Aurora.

Never tried any desktop extenders, so I can't help there. I've never had a program that runs all the time that I couldn't disable, though. Just disable it from the startup (or services if it put itself there).

I'm using mesons for my PD. Have a 15cm Meson cannon with focusing 6 giving it a range of 180k km with a 5 sec fire rate (charge rate 6). Even only 180k km is hard to get a fire control thats both fast enough to target missiles and with enough range to have a decent accuracy at that range (I'm using a size 12 one right now, heh - but I eventually want to cut that down as I research range more). I put it on a 20,000 tracking speed turret. It seems to work well, the one precursor ship I've had attack my explorer didn't manage to get any missiles past my ship armed with 4 of them and set to 180k km area PD mode, and those missiles were going 30,000. It isn't too large either, 5 size turrets, 12 size sensor, total size of PD setup is 32. My warships also carry AM missiles if I ever get in a serious fight.

Not even sure how you'd manage keeping up with range for the fire control if you were using a longer range laser. I think mesons might penetrate missile armor too, but im not sure.

I don't need a desktop scroller, 1920 x 1080 monitor ftw.

Also, I *think* you can insta-kill missiles with mesons.

Well, I restarted in safe mode and shredded all the files for that damn bit of nagware, downloaded ResizeEnable, and whaddya know, it works great. As it turns out, my memory was wrong and the only window that needs resizing is the TG one, and all I have to do is run RE, shrink it (which doesn't do much beyond squishing the text and buttons a little), close RE, and just keep the TG window open for the rest of the session. Glad I decided to try RE one last time before giving up.  :)
