Huh, one of my geo survey ships detected 7 strength 5 active sensor contacts, then immediately got blown to bits 5 seconds later by "Chaco Anti-ship missiles". I sent in the Grav Survey, which is armed with point defense mesons, and rescued the crew - no sign of enemies. Flew back to the planet where it happened and got attacked by another group of 7 size 24 missiles, but this time my Meson PD turrets blew them out of the sky before they hit me.

Flew around the area some more, no more missiles. No ruins on any of the planets and haven't seen any other contacts in my system, the other geo survey ship in the system hasn't had any trouble. The planet they popped out of is a gas giant, so im not quite sure where they even came from.

That some kind of ancient proximity mines or something? Was only the two groups of them. First time I've seen anything like it in a system that is otherwise completely uninhabited. They just popped up right beside my ship both times, hitting (or being shot down) in the next 5 second increment.

Yep. Mines need active sensors on their missile portion to home in, so that's what your Geo ship detected. There are indeed ancient minefields lying around undetonated.

I attacked a colony with ground troops and a whole bunch of combat transports surrendered... it's weird though, they all seem to be located in systems which are named after ships(?) so it's like, one is in larrywilson and can travel to larrywilson-A II, larrywilson-A III etc). They also happen to be loaded with a ton of combat troops.

Centering the view on the ship just centers on a random spot in the star system. Moving them seems to work (i.e. it does not spit out an error and the ETA goes down) but does not make them show up anywhere.

if it makes a difference, I think it was
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

weird.

They are faulty files within the outpost's computer network that are still displaying the last known locations of those ships while their civ was being destroyed.

I think it's pretty funny how the Precursors had an army of killer robots and the invaders just happened to open up a 'hole in their home system which they didn't even turn into an impenetrable fortress.

Bad move Precursors, bad move.

Hmmm actually, I noticed I can now pick those systems off the pulldown menu in the star system view (yes, there's a system named larrywilson as well as some other somewhat more reasonable names).

The ships actually seem to exist there, and I can move them around, activate sensors, etc. There's a bunch of other wrecks too, but of course no jumpoints (the combat transpots all have jumpdrives if there were).

Since I have absolutely no idea where they are, and since some of the ships have as much as 70 years clocked up on the maintenance cycle (annual failure rate over 10,000% :D), they are all probably going to fall apart completely before I can collect them.

what a strange bug(?)

I guess they weren't prepared to take it from the back door, so to speak....

Badum tish!

Also, damn you, Random Number Gods! My Governor of Earth, with a 30% bonus to pop growth, and 25% bonuses to mining and shipbuilding, has developed a serious illness affecting his long term health.

Well, at least he didn't die in an "accident". Watch, though. The second one of my officers gets promoted to Sky Marshal (s)he'll bite it in a flitter crash or something equally stupid.

Uh, one of my survey ships just jumped into a system with four wrecks:
-7350 tons
-35950 tons
-46250 tons
-109350 tons

Does this mean what I think it does? If so:

SHITSHITSHITSHITSHITSHIT I STILL ONLY HAVE THOSE TWO CRAPPY DESTROYERS AND THEY DON'T HAVE ANY MORE MISSILES AND NONE ARE STOCKPILED

Quick throw together some beam shits ships and search!

Also, what does the serious illness even do? Lower the person's lifespan?

I believe so.

Also, there are 3 2.0 colony cost planets there! But... my survey ship has been there for three months and is still unmolested, and hasn't registered any sensor contacts, so my fingers are crossed...

I guess I got lucky. Salvage complete on the 100kton one, recovering some minerals and gaining 1500 points toward ceramic armor. Also, in an unrelated note, an engineer brigade recovered four 20cm ultraviolent ultraviolet lasers. I have yet to research visible light lasers.

And in another note, I just recruited the umpteen millionth construction researcher, and I still have a total of 1 missile researcher, 1 en weapons researchers, and 0 sensors researchers. The fuck?

Strange things are afoot: There ARE aliens in the system, and according to the intel report they look like human women with '80s hair. But the only contact is a single "ship" with a thermal reading of 100 and no movement.  ???
