Press select when the game starts up, and a menu bar should pop up. Open the menus, and find the option that says reduced screen size.

@ x2yzh9: Have you tried using a geosurvey team on your planets? Sometimes they can come up with fresh deposits of minerals. If you've already done that, or if they don't find anything, Space Master mode may be your best option.

@ jaxy15: On the main menu toolbar, go to Game Parameters -> Reduced Size Windows. This will cut down all window sizes to fit on an average laptop screen.

Urgh, my main game got hit with the 5-15 seconds increments of DOOM! Hopefully it should get back to normal soon enough...

Okay, what the hell just happened?
I tried updating to 5.42 and it gave me an error.
I even uninstalled the game, reinstalled 4.91, 5.40, and then tried 5.42 again. Still error.

You know, maybe it would be a good idea to tell us what the error was?

So, how do I uncover precursor ruins?

Error 3625 was generated by DAO.Fields or something
Apparently it couldn't find a file.

So, how do I uncover precursor ruins?
Finding: Geosurveys from ships. To get ready to be recovered: Xeno teams. To recover: Engineer Brigades.

Are you sure you've got the file?

Anyway, that's a rare error. Only one other result on this forum and one result on the official forum. You should ask for help on their forums.

You're SURE you did it this way:
1) ran the install
2) Unzipped the AuroraUpdate491.zip into the directory correctly -- this is an easy step to miss
3) Install 5.40 overwriting the 2 files
4) Install 5.42 overwriting the Aurora.exe
?

The 3625 DAO error sounds a lot like what I got when I didn't do step 2...

I did exactly like you said, gimlet.

Still gives that error, and also some error about DAO.Recordset or something.

What exact file does it say it's missing?

It just says that a file is missing and doesn't really specify it.

Hmmm, post it on their forums. I've never heard of that error before and I doubt they have either.

Just remember to type out the entire error text, though, since they'll likely want it typed out.

How do I change or see my decimal separator in vista?

EDIT: i changed my decimal thing from the Dutch one to the UK one and they both were EXACTLY the same.
And it fixed my problem >.>

EDIT: I'm starting my first game now after having followed the tutorial, and I was wondering about one thing in the tutorial. Why does a geosurvey ship need an active sensor? I understand it needs the survey sensor but why would it want to detect ships? Or are sensors also used to detect celestial bodies?
