I'd be happy if it were.

Hmmm, did you have an NPR get generated at game start? Maybe they got generated in a near-Sol system and they're in your systems killin ur doodz building jump gates without ever getting in range of your sensors.

Tarran has the "Tarran Bug", a bug which causes the affected character to repeatedly hit teammates while dual-wielding instead of whatever the hell he is shooting at.

I'm scared D:. Shouldn't my deep space tracker thing at my homeplanet pick them up?

Depends, as far as I know deep space trackers are passive sensors, not active sensors. They use two kinds of sensors, EM and Thermal, EM detects any shield and active sensor emissions of ships and planets, while thermal detects thermal signatures (from engines or thermal signatures from planets) at certain distances,

EM Detection Sensors passively detect shields and active search sensors of other ships, as well as electronic emissions from inhabited planets.
Detects Thermal signatures from planets and ships.

unlike active sensors that detect enemies by size (regardless of how large or small their Thermal signature is or if they have shields or AS on), so the aliens could be well outside of your DS Thermal sensor detection range of signatures of their strengths, and Jump Gate construction ships usually don't have AS or shields. The only way to be sure is either build more DS sensors hoping that eventually they'll detect them, or send a ship with active sensors on on patrol duty.

Do you have 'Jump gates on all jump points' enabled? if so, thats why your JP's have JG's on them. If not, you've got visitors :D

I'll just make a few speedy patrol ship then, hope it's a benevolent race or some mindless jump gate obsessed race with no military :P

Invisible benevolent gate-builders?
This does happen. NPR may scout through a system without even noticing you, build gates for their own use and move right along without ever bothering you.

Cheese, ..goodluck.. try not to piss off the NPR which will likely slaughter you if it comes to conflict [since you likely don't have any defences from what you signified you had..]
I cant recall what the wiki says about NPR's but if its building jumpgates, then its not the "naturally evil spoiler content" ones, and theres a decent chance that if you handle your first contact right they wont slaughter you... You do this by... getting them on active sensors [they will be added to your diplomacy screen] and then getting the hell out of any system they are in... and stay the hell away from any ship/colony they have.. then set a diplomatic team on them, and try provided they don't hate you outright already [random factors + if they see you in their systems + if you attack them / they attack you], you could try initiating communications.. HOPEFULLY you will get to communicate and live happily ever after and maybe even trade with them... [and even military help too later down the line]

This looks interesting, Civilization and Alpha Centauri are favorites of mine, but I'm on a laptop with 1280x800, and the attitude of the developer towards making the resolution more user-friendly makes me suspect I shouldn't hold my breath.  Oh well.

Apparently there are some screen scrolly things or something that can bypass it.

I've managed to play it at 1280x960, 1280x1024 makes everything stretched and blurry while my native resolution of 1650x1050 makes everything tiny.

EDIT: I checked my intelligence and diplomacy screen which I hadn't noticed before. Apparently I've seen Sol Aliens #1000, 2 of their ships passed through within a day of each other around 4 or 5 months ago. Both "Aethorny" class vessels, an 001 and a 002. Speed: Roughly 1300, Thermal signature: 1799. Current diplomatic rating for this race: -13.

Is there some sort of thing I can use that will update me on these events? I was skipping along at 30 day increments and i probably wouldn't have noticed an interrupt, kind of annoying not having an announcement box of some sort.

E: I only have one diplomatic officer so I can't send a team off :/

You do have a anouncement box, second button form the right if I recall correctly.

Make sure your diplos aren't just tied up with other teams, you really want to have good relations with nprs as this can be very lucrative. Try expanding your military academy to get more diplos.

Ahhh, found it. Under spacemaster or shift-F3.
I've only had one diplo guy for a while now, will try to expand military.

I meant on the system maps screen. It's the same window that pops up though.

Communication attempts have got diplomatic rating up to -5 from -13 over a few months, so things are looking good.
E: +11 rating now, they've identified themselves as the confederation of mook.

I'm glad that mystery is apparently solved.  Just keep in mind that the number you see is only your view of the race, not how they view you.  Ideally, your own diplomacy team will have an impact as time goes by, and if you're well-behaved towards them things will improve over time.
