If you want to see anything in particular, let me know.
It'd be nice to see some armour-stripping data. Maybe some tests on the penetrating damage from a specific weapon to an opponent whose armour has narrow-but-deep holes compared to one with wide-but-shallow holes?
Any specific weapons? I'm actually curious about this myself, to see how damage is distributed from a big hit landing on the side of a deep gouge. I'll run a few right now to see how it shakes out.
Ummm, strength six plasma and particles to soften and strength 9 missiles for the final attack?

I just wanted to post this here design to see what everyone thought of it.

Spoiler: Minuteman class FAC (click to show/hide)

If I may add, it's purposefully small. I wanted a ship bigger than a fighter, yet small enough to not need a bridge, mostly just for flavor/RP.

Now, what stands out to me is that I should probably use two 4 Power reactors rather than one big one so that if one goes, the thing can still shoot (albeit a reduced ROF), but I wasn't quite sure how much damage reactors dealt to the ship when they explode.

That much fuel = intentional.

MSP < Max Repair, but these things'll basically just be sitting in groups on populated asteroid bases as a sort of protection, so they'll just be sitting in maintenance facilities until needed.

Anyways, thoughts?

Trying to get into Aurora. I am reading the wiki. It seems to not have alot of info. Is there a manual?
What are the best newbie Lets Play videos? I am watching Quill18 who is very good ,but his videos are total play throughs and its hours to watch him. Anything shorter that gives the basics?

Also, having trouble with the icons. I dont get any tool tips when I highlight them so I am having trouble remembering which icon is for what. Are there tool tips? This is kind of a pain to remember.
Any newbie guides include a good newbie creation. I see dont do invasion, quill18 says to start without Trans Newtonian so the start is slower and you can figure stuff, make sure to include atleast 6 jump gates. Anything else?

I dont play alot of 4x games. So this is really new for me.

No manual, but there are quite a few people here on this thread and over on the Aurora forum who will be more than happy to answer any questions you have.

I do not know of any let's plays that you would not find by searching this forum thread for the term "video".

When testing designs don't hesitate to use the SM mode to spawn some ships and targets to see how it all work out, fluff it as a live fire training or something. It's the best way to go as a new player IMO.

Pretty good FAC over all, just seems slow for IFD level drives though.  I'm usually trying to push 8k at around Ion for beam FACs.

Also don't worry about that tonnage there, 750-1k is your FAC range with the average (for me) being 900.

Also you could remove that AS, throw it either on a dedicated support/sensor FAC/Frigate or PDC if these are going to be for defense.

Is that so? Huh. I thought FACs were somewhere around the 1000-3000 ton range. Pfffttt.

I've got an outdated and garbage 3000 ton "FAC" design currently in service and it's being shredded by AMM spam as we speak. I'll scrap them and use their materials for more Minutemen.

Hell, I may jam a few Minutemen in a carrier and see where that takes me. :P

Interesting suggestions. Thank you. I wasn't quite sure how ships/PDCs sharing active sensor data worked.

If one vessel detects something in its AS, does every vessel nearby have the ability to target the contact if they're in range?

All it takes is one ship with an active sensor to allow any other ship to target and attack.

The only armed combat ships I put active sensors on are usually my PD/Escort ships.  Mainly so that I never lose res 1 sensors and those active sensors never need to be that big.  Usually no bigger than 250 tons (while my main AS is never less than 1k tons).

Has the game really changed so much that the forum tutorials no longer apply? I thought the dev stopped updating the game to work on Aurora 2.

Aurora 2 is more or less stalled; I don't know if there's been any progress on it since it was first posted in 2010.  The big project of the moment is a C# port (which was originally going to be one of the features of Aurora 2, actually), with a few new features appearing as it takes Steve's interest.  That said, a lot of the tutorials even predate the latest version of Aurora; I wouldn't be surprised to find that some go back as far as 5.50.

It's a really nice feature.  I used to think I'd need massive ships that moved slowly, had all of the bells and whistles, and that sort of thing.  Now... as a result of the Proxima Centauri colony's growth, demands for protection, and subsequent civil unrest, I built a PDC with massive sensors.  Maxed at what my tech level allowed, and studded with ... well, as soon I finish the research I'll just post it here, okay?  And the little battle between some aliens that thought blowing up three of my ships was a good idea.

Also question:
Exactly how long does it take to traverse a wormhole?
