Eh, I just build the biggest military ships my shipyards can handle, and support them with Fighters.

size are pushed up because armor mass for a point of armor is slightly less as the mass increases

since small ship don't get more maneuverable, you get no other factor than production resources to limit ship size - I don't think maintenance is affected more than linearly by components either.

the only other consideration is that if you have a fleet of same tonnage (say, 10 shiops @ 10kt vs 1 ship @ 100kt) and encounter something _really_ nasty you can split the fleet, turn off actives and  hope to save half of it or more.

Or you could have 1 ship at 50kT and 2 ships at 25kT. Or anything like that. I think I would prefer the 50-25-25 split more for some reason, IDK why though.

Also, shipyard building plus ship manufacturing and yard retooling times.

I'm using 3,000, 6,000 and 12,000 ton warships now (old ones are slighly smaller) and admittedly they're probably undersized. Those expensive fire control systems may go a bit wasted for just a couple of guns each, but they all those ships have similar speeds, are quick to build and I believe I save a lot of resources by making specialist sensors and point defense ships.

Now that is a first. I just produced another 200 Automines on Terra and I have no Idea where to put them. Three planets get enough minerals, and the next one that is supposed to become a production center has no good planets for automines within 3 jumps. I might have to reconsider where to put the next construction facilities.

I would also like a tech that improves mass drivers. I keep forgetting to check if I have enough capacities after adding more mines/researching better mining.

For my genocide run I have decided to rely solely on lasers, soldiers and missiles.
Lasers will be the main weapon on all of my ships, most of which will hold troops and drop pods.

To 'kill' planets if the ground soldiers fail, I will bombard them with my 'orbital bomb' class of missile, which has no engine. I will move to orbit around the planet and fire those missiles at it.

Too much of a hassle. I have enough micromanagement to do. I always hope the civilians will do that, but they only expand their complexes. Two are at over 80 each, and one is close. That is nice, but I would really like them to build a new one somewhere for a change.

I've noticed that myself. Seems like they used to focus on quantity over quality; in my current campaign it's been something like 70 years and there's less than a dozen civilian mining colonies.

Will you have ship-boarding?

Can mass drivers be weaponized? Can you launch stuff at alien planets if they don't have one themselves?

Sadly, no.
STARS! had that, and even had racial options built around it.

Can Ayyys launch planetary invasions?

If so, and if the planet still counts as yours and being contested doesn't change the ability to launch precious rocks at it, would there be a chance of killing invaders if said planet had no mass driver of its own? The theory relies on a lot of ifs, but perhaps if you pick up the mass driver before the invasion fleet pops up then the sending driver would still send and kill all the things?

I just want to make sure there's no way to be dwarven with the mass drivers. I mean, more dwarven than they already are, what with flinging raw materials at a kajillion miles an hour through space towards a moving target.
