Deleting their ships won't break them. I don't think it'd work like you expect though since nprs use diff rules. They seem to just spawn ships without need to dedicate shipyards, so like one 100,000 size sy will spit out ships of all sizes up to 100,000 without any refit delays in between. So they would have a mixed fleet in orbit much faster than you.

Is there a way to set up a "space race" scenario against an NPR? I would like to start a game sharing Earth with an identical empire, with no starting ships. Apparently I can't start an NPR at conventional tech?  And starting an NPR trans-newtonian automatically gives them ships. Is there some way to use SM to get rid of their ships?

You could probably win an arms race even if they start at trans-newtonian and you don't.  But unfortunately, you can not recreate "Race Into Space" in Aurora.

That's disappointing. Anyone know why NPRs can't have conventional starts?

Some do, though. That's what has happened when you find NPR homeworlds with pop counts in the billions and little/no space-based infrastructure or military.

They can't handle conventional starts, no programming to.  Probably don't even do the research needed, but definitely don't know how to convert conventional industries.

I think Steve removed conventional NPRs several versions ago, because they were generally uninteresting. At least, I haven't come across one in a loooooong time.

Might have done. Actually, come to think of it, I haven't run across any in my new campaign.

That's a shame, I'm sure I didn't read that in any changelogs, perhaps they're merely broken?

They're nearly as bad as badgers. Build a couple of anti-buzzard SAM sites marksdwarf towers and your fortress will look like Baghdad in 2003 from all the aerial bolt spam. You waste a lot of ammo and everything is covered in unslightly exploded buzzard bits and broken bolts.

So are there still non-player entities in the game and such?  Do I still get to do battles with mysterious races?  I saw the thread and it suddenly occurred to me that unlike back when I first tried to play this, I have a 1080p and 900p dual monitor setup and it's probably actually playable now.

Eh, sorry for being a dick to you RedKnight, wasn't in my right mind.

Not really sure if I want to put my time into aurora like I did before, though.

Yes, and they work better now, too.

Still a good idea to leave Invaders off until the update that's supposed to fix the various campaign-killing slowdowns, though.

Yep. I'm still having the amazing luck of finding the Precursors first and foremost, and getting my ass handed to me. :)

Even after cheating in high-level tech, my 24,000 km/s missiles can't get through their god damn defenses.

...I'm shutting all "special" NPC races off and turning up NPR generation.

It's been a while, but 24,000 is pretty slow for a missile, isn't it? How high did you cheat your engine tech?

You could always go the AI route and design AMMs with ASM applications in mind. Fire enough missiles and, eventually, they won't be able to shoot them all down. :P

I once ran into a race that had 6400km/s missiles with insane maneuverability that were next to impossible to hit with my low tech 12km/s AMMs.
