That is pretty similar to mine, actually. Mine is based (very roughly) on the reunifications wars in 40k, with a bit of comedy.

The precursers had the nazi flag and a viking when I encountered them, so they are moon nazis turned pirates. The reason they never leave their ships in life pods? They know they'd be executed on the spot.

The first NPR's got the Russian flag, so they are the descendants of a russian colony vessel. For some reason or other they decided to send us a picture of leopards though.
They blew up my explorer, so they have been declared rebels.

I'm also doing something similar except it's philosophy based and not history based.  If you aren't members of the Consolidated Consortium and it's ideals you are only leading all the life of the universe to destruction.  Along with the precursors being called The Threat for being artificial beings bent on destruction, and the mindless intentions of the Swarm needing to be curtailed.

Well it seems I have a system with 4 low cost planets, but none of these planets have any minerals even after searching them with the geology team. Is it worth it to make these colonies? I'm already making a bunch of money so I don't feel the need for trade, and it would only slow down my colony transport contracts.

Yes. It costs nothing but a bit of time to terraform a x2.0 cost world to 0.0 and drop a few hundred thousand people on it. Not least because it'll stop NPRs from colonizing it. They're also convenient places to have fuel depots, mineral collection points, sensor bases, fighter bases, &c. Even more so if it's in a choke point system.

Aurora Challenge: You are Xenophobic High Supreme Imperial Commander God Number One. All must bow before you.

Start a new game:

1: 0 starting NPRs
2: 100% NPR generation Chance
3: 100% difficulty setting
4: 100 million loyal subjects.
5: Research should be set as TN with 100,000 research points and random tech.
6: No starting ships or PDC bases.
6: Choose a government and use whatever starting facilities come with it.
7: Build and explore until alien contact.
8: Cease all explorations.
8: Exterminate or assimilate new alien race at all costs.
9: Add 100% to the difficulty level and save. So after conquering the first aliens you would be at 200% difficulty.
10: Continue exploring and conquering and after each one add another 100% to the difficulty level (don't forget to save).
11: ???
12: Profit.

How far can you go? After conquering 9 alien civilizations you would be at 1000% difficulty. That would be a tough one I think. Since I usually play at 200-300% I really don't know. I am starting a new game right now. If anyone wants to try also, make sure and post your results.

Note: It is important to extinguish the aliens asap because if not they will start exploring and unlocking new aliens. That WILL eventually snowball and your game becomes a nightmare of 5 second increments and slow turn processing. you can always turn off the 50% NPR generation temporarily if your having troubling dealing with a particular civilization. Playing this way you can easily go for 100's of years and still have pretty quick turn processing. I would say that SM generating a small pirate faction and occasionally wiping out your civilian fleets would be permissible if you want to speed up your turns.

Sincerely,

    Auroras R' Fun

My old campaign has fallen victim to slowdown, and I'm looking for a challenge, so I'm going to take a stab at this. And there's only one race who will fit a challenge of this sort.

So begins the story of the Zuul Imperium. I picked Military Theocracy for government type mostly for flavor reasons (this gives me one research lab, which kind of fits the Zuul but may be something I come to regret). Theme.. let's go with Warhammer 40k empire; I've never used it but I'm expecting a lot of aggressive and arrogant ship names. I'm going with a Sol start for simplicity; I will assume that a few Zuul stumbled on a cheerfully oblivious pre-TNE Earth and ate all the humans. Galactic conquest is off to a good start!

You don't specify Precursors or Star Swarm; I considered leaving them out if the goal is just to tear apart the galaxy in an orgy of conquest, but decided to leave them in for more violence. Also the precursors at least may be a valuable opportunity to offset a slow research start. You don't specify other settings either, so I left maintenance on but turned off inexperienced fleets, real stars, and orbital motion.

70 Construction factories. This is going to be a slow start.

Expect future updates, unless people complain about them being annoying.

IIRC civilian mining colonies only pop up in populated systems, so if you have enough money that you're not worrying about money then sticking a colony there will let them civilians give you minerals. They also definitely pop up more often the more surplus income you have, so it basically ends up being minerals without having to manage the mines or mass drivers (other than the ones you have at the pickup point). This relies on there being other things with minerals in the system, but it'd be incredibly rare for there to be four low cost planets and not also a bunch of other bodies.

Aurora v6.43 - All-In-One/Portable release Thread
TLDR Just install this.
Install this package if MSVCR100.DLL is missing

I've been running wargames to refresh my knowledge, I have finally deciphered automatic point defence modes and use of the task forces screen, next I must master task forces to reduce micromanagement.
My testing of laser warheads continues, but I have discovered a small bug, Beam weapons should not work well in atmospheres, at the range I tested where damage would be a single point I could not even fire through atmosphere , indeed a PDC on earth firing in nearby space or onto earth with it's lasers could not fire at all, a ship in space at extreme range could not fire upon ground forces or installations on earth, BUT could fire at enemy PDC's freely with no loss of damage, which is wrong on so many levels.
My tests of laser warheads showed them doing full damage at everything I fired at, enemy ships, PDC's ground forces, and population. I have yet to fully test them against point defence but my earlier test seemed to suggest that they were unblockable as long as the laser wavelength outranged enemy defensive fire, even final defencive fire from CIWS doesn't work.

They're nearly as bad as badgers. Build a couple of anti-buzzard SAM sites marksdwarf towers and your fortress will look like Baghdad in 2003 from all the aerial bolt spam. You waste a lot of ammo and everything is covered in unslightly exploded buzzard bits and broken bolts.

Ahaha, I might be needing to make me some laser-head bombardment missiles, then. Cheers on the science, Marc.

Am I missing the option to recycle ships? Or am I going to have to destroy and then salvage them?

You can do it at the shipyards. Same drop down menu wäre you choose to repair or refit.

I started with a military dictatorship, so one shipyard and two research labs (also Warhammer 40k). I thought about using precursors/swarm but had enough of them with my other 150 year old campaign. Plus I didn't want to dictate every last detail to people, being as how this is Aurora and every last detail is "All the details".

"The Empire of Doom was born on the year 2000 in the Temple of Sol on the Capital City." Otherwise known as ED.

ED was pissed.

Sounds like the makings for a huge civilian economy and a great population generation center. Get at least 10 million on each to unlock all of the trade goods and give your shipping lines something to do.
