Well, you have one colony per race, so you should have a colony on Mars in your colony list with the vanquished population.

Yeah, it shows something like Population: 0.000m | Human now. It's possible I completely wiped the martians out with that last nuclear strike since their population was slowly declining, but it seems unlikely.

It might have done the same thing that it does when you conquer stuff with ground troops. Check to see if there are duplicate colonies; if it's this thing, there'll be one with a 'Human' population of 0.000 like that (and nothing in it), and another with all of the actual stuff and a subjugated pop status.

Anyone know how to make Aurora playable on small screens? I'm stuck using my 13" laptop at the moment. It has a 1080p resolution, so that isn't the issue, but the windows still don't fit on the screen. Any tips?

I don't look at peoples' sigs usually, but given that he apparently has instructions for it, maybe I should have. Thanks.

How does AI decide its tactic?

Trying meat shield tactic against AI AMM spam, my ships have about 350 points of shields. However, when I put all eight meat shield ships in one task group, AI used 2200 AMMs against them, concentrate their attack on four ships and destroyed them. Then I divided meat shields into single ships, and AI decided to attack each with about 220 AMMs rather than concentrate on one or use more missiles.

Several minutes later one ship hit by 359 AMMs.

When trying harass tactic, AI ships only fire when my ships are too close to escape from missile control.

Some more weirdness with my newly liberated Mars colony. Despite being (as far as I can tell) fully human, their political status is still listed as "Subjugated", which they earned after being "Vanquished" for a few months.

The only evidence of the previous inhabitants I could find was a lone martian scientist working in the last intact lab. I figured I could use him for a couple points of research while I got things set up, but after cancelling his project and shipping his lab to Earth, all trace of him and his research contribution disappeared. I can only assume that he was executed by the secret police for his influence on his human lab assistants.

Research progress is tied to colony.  So by stoping the research there and moving the colony you are doing that research on you start over

Still doesn't explain the scientist's disappearance. And I'm pretty sure the research was reset for the colony too.

He either died or teleported to somewhere else (aka you assigned him to a mission on a ship or a different body).

I think it was a glitch with the colony. He definitely wasn't moved, and I never saw a notice for him dying.

I've discovered what the martians were doing while I was teching up and preparing for war. They've placed small military bases on several moons around the Sol system, and likely in the other systems they explored as well. Evidently they realized there was no hope for their homeworld and tried to keep their civilization alive by spreading it throughout the cosmos. I've destroyed a few with my railgun frigates, but there's one on Titan which is protected by the atmosphere, and there's no telling how many bases there are in other systems.

Also, are lasers the only weapons that can be spinal mounted? Because if so, I've wasted a lot of research.

Yes, spinal mounts are laser-only in the current iteration of the game.

Hoo boy. I finally decided to actually get into this proper, and it is overwhelming. Does anyone have a recommended tutorial or newbie guide?
