Oxygen is indeed reactive, but really, the main problem with high oxygen atmospheres is that it makes things burn. Since oxygen, well, oxidizes stuff, and combustion is a form of oxidation... :V

Not of that sort I don't think.  Pretty sure methane is toxic though.

So, all of my civilian (e: shipping company that is) ships arent moving at all.  They moved to this out of system colony on orders to unload their stuff, then never came back and stopped doing anything.  They still have contracts and two huge populations in the home system to trade with.  They even recently launched freighters which still havent been getting any orders.  Its worth noting that on a few occasions aliens have entered the systems.

Any ideas?

e2:  Turned on transponders in my home system, (they were off previosly) and now the fucktards refuse to stop charging a system filled with star swarm, despite the fact that there are no longer contracts of any sort there.  (I even cleared the idiots orders manually)

Might be a friendly alien colony, I doubt it.  A survey ship observed a huge battle break out in the inner system where some aliens were apparently exterminated.

I was letting them investigate since I couldn't stop them and now they are getting murdered by the swarm FAC.  I hate everything.

e:  Used to be a colony of mine there, I ordered infrastructure unloaded then immediately abandoned it after I lost the first convoy and its escourts to swarm.  The freighters aren't carrying infrastructure right now though.

e2: Banned the body and now they are doing nothing again.  Just going to stop playing for now, maybe somebody knows what the hell is going on.

Can bad stuff happen if you make an atmosphere that's 50% methane and 50% oxygen or something?

Sure, your colonists can't breath the stuff, because no species can both breath oxygen and methane.  Every species has one of those gases as toxic (although some planets are so cold they're liquids/solids?, but that's beside the point...).

Theres definitely one on both sides, though I forgot to check that initially.  (let some friendly aliens come through and build them)

Have you tried deleting the colony you had in there? Granted, you'll lose whatever you have on it, but from the sound of things that's not much.

You could try setting up new contracts in other systems, or new seed colonies for them to build up. Do keep in mind, though, that (IIRC) civilian lines are aware of alien worlds even if you aren't, so that system could be connected to one with an alien homeworld or something they might be trying to trade with.

Thats entirely possible, they were making for a 'trade location'.

They wont react to my new colony im setting up in what I assume to be a more secure system, they are all just totally stationary right now.  They refuse to even trade with the in system colony as well (as mentioned earlier).

What's their load and destination?

They may be trying to trade with a pair of locations and one of them orbits so fast they can't catch it.

You've got a couple options here.

1. Kill off all the Swarm in the system.
2. Accept the fact that civilian ships are going to keep killing themselves or be stuck until you deal with the problem. Note that this is going to make the Swarm harder to clean out later on if you let the civvies give them a bunch of wrecks.
3. Delete the system.

Destroy the jump gate, quarantine the system.

They're nearly as bad as badgers. Build a couple of anti-buzzard SAM sites marksdwarf towers and your fortress will look like Baghdad in 2003 from all the aerial bolt spam. You waste a lot of ammo and everything is covered in unslightly exploded buzzard bits and broken bolts.

Check out this planet:

800km larger in diameter than Jupiter.
And a sane level of gravity.

There's an intra-system warp along it's orbit, but it's not going to come near it for a very long time, which means that it'd make a great spot to defend from, especially since it probably has a ludicrous amount of minerals. The other planets in the system do, there's one I found that has all mineral types, averaging 15 million.

I haven't done a survey yet because it's out of range of my survey ship, and wiping out a third of my population screwed up a whole lot of stuff, so I'm not going to build a new one for a while.
I got Earth down to 0.3667 pressure though.
And Venus down to 90.1325.
