Aurora Let's Plays of all kinds are cool, though a bit difficult to get off the ground. I'd be up for something like this.

I think The Coldest War hit upon the magic formula for a forum based LP of Aurora. Specifically the moderator plays one side and the forum plays the other as a group. A lot of LP's fail when there isn't any good NPR action, and multi-empire forum games never seem to work because of the logistics.
Would love to read it but I'm not nor will I ever be a SA member.

SA forums fluctuate constantly in what they allow non-members to view.  I'd certainly never pay for their forum either.  Just wait a few days and the LP should be "free" to view (although their banner ads make you pay in insanity points, lol) if it's not already.

Truce countdown doesn't work.  I have been brutally murdered in the first few years on a ten year peace time for two games in a row.  (by aliens in the same system as me)

I can understand that, though this particular LP is free of typical goon shenanigans. Worth it if you can view it on archive, it's been running for 2 years and is still going strong.

But regardless, the structure of how he chose to run it is brilliant for Aurora. Specifically the moderator playing one side and the players the other. This ensures that there's something interesting going on in the early years besides asteroid mining and drive research. Also lots of opportunity for roleplaying and the peanut-gallery chiming in.
Kind of like how Steve's best AARs are so interesting to read because the game starts with ready made rivals in the same system (generally).

I'd certainly follow and probably participate in an Aurora LP on these forums.

I'd be up for operating a ship design company in this sort of Let's Play. If nothing else, it'd be a cool showcase of different design philosophies.

As an aside, isn't the enforced truce only limited to the homeworld, to prevent immediate radioactive wasteland status? I know that in Steve's campaign, the Chinese had their fleet wiped out before the end of the truce.

My homeworld was bombed every time.  They basically just eventually decide to magdump into my shipyards, then my planet and any PDC's I managed to set up.

e: At least once I detected sensors on the missiles, maybe it was accidental on the AI's part.

Same homeworld as aliens?  There might also be some other factor.  For instance, when I set up my multi-nation start, I set them all as human.  It was also before the latest "fix", which could certainly have broken the game instead.

At any rate, sounds like a hotter "start" than I've ever experienced in this game.  I've got to try it!

I'm having unrest issues on my first colonized planet, Mars. This is with a conventional start, some 50 years in. I have limited experience with this game so I might be missing something obvious here.

"Unrest is rising on Mars because the population believes that the central government is not providing sufficient military protection. Unrest increased by 0.3475%"
"Ground forces on Mars have reduced the unrest level to zero"

Getting endlessly spammed with these two messages damn near every turn. Mars has a population of 20mil with four trans-Newtonian garrison battalions. Shipping over more troops has no effect on the unrest percentage so I'm guessing I need a specific facility or something.

Put some ships or PDCs on Mars to cover their defense need.

Yup, it's pretty silly but an ICBM missile base (even with no missiles) will provide a fair amount of protection value points even though it's only use is bombing it's own planet so pretty much having them is less protecting your population but more about threatening them with nukes.

Why don't you just produce some great big cannon-looky thingies, instead of *actual* weapons systems?
Isn't that what empty missile silos are? I was under the impression that the presence of the launcher would be enough.

Why waste resources on fake weapons when you can just use outdated military hardware? I mean, what else am I going to do with those piles of sixty year old FACs?
