Diplomacy teams can stay at home, they don't have to work 'hands on' like xenologists or geologists, but use radio for communicating.

Earth? Are you talking about the civilian 'race'?
Or did you create an NPR on Earth using SM mode?

Joining game 199 if anyone else wants to play another game. 154 is getting a bit slow because I'm waiting for forces to assemble before I gank the AI's.

Civilians aren't a race, they're your own empire's civilians. They'll make mining colonies which you can buy minerals from (or collect tax on if you let it go to the civs) and build ships which will move things around your empire (which also gives you tax). Civs are good :)

Then why did they turn hostile in my last game and made me surrender?

Sometimes it happens when you move your mass drivers away from earth thus getting bombarded by minerals that make civilians mad.

I think thats a bug.

They aren't normally hostile, but if you attack their ships or let earth be bombarded via moving the mass driver off they go hostile.

Yeh i got a reply on aurora forums, apparently civilians build PDC's in version 4.9 even though they aren't suppose to. And if they have active sensors, then they will get pissed.

Diplomacy team is pretty much a requirement if you want to have a chance at peace.  After finding NPR, keep clear of NPR.  Initiate contact asap.

Me probably. Switch on SM, go to the events log, and double click on one of the damage reports. Enjoy.

EDIT: Oh, sorry, forgot to mention, this first pops up with a window, ship design or something IIRC, for the NPR class, which is completely blank. Close that window, and the F3 window should show you the system.

Guys, I just installed this game and realised it doesn't even fit my screen (1024 x 800, the highest it can get)! I'm sure this question has been answered before but what program I should use so I can see the whole game? I'm using Vista Business 32-bit.

Cheers.

If you have a discrete Radeon card, use the Catalyst Control Center to manually set your display capability to 1024x800 (or whatever's comfortable), then set the desktop resolution to whatever's required. You'll have a scrolling desktop. I don't know whether NVidia cards have a similar option.

There are also various 3rd party programs that allow you to extend your screensize.
Check out the first posts in this thread, there was quite a bit of discussion on installation and resolution problems.

Also, don't dare make a suggestion that the screen resolution should be anything but what the game demands, or suggestions about scrolls bars. Steve, the dever for the game, is firmly locked on his mind to have the resolution where its at, and thats final.
