I just accidentally hit the 'add sol system button', (really stupid option imo).  Any way I could possibly get rid of it?

There's a delete button somewhere in the system view window (spacemaster mode, obviously).

That sort of change is nice to have for quality of life purposes - it's one less list I have to make if I want to name shipyards something other then 'Earth Military Shipyard - Light Cruiser Line'

And i never even noticed that autorename shipyard button, i just tried it out and it popped out 'odense steel', my main naval yard was already manually named 'maersk : odense" heh.

They're nearly as bad as badgers. Build a couple of anti-buzzard SAM sites marksdwarf towers and your fortress will look like Baghdad in 2003 from all the aerial bolt spam. You waste a lot of ammo and everything is covered in unslightly exploded buzzard bits and broken bolts.

I always name mine after major urban cities or actual shipyards, only using "Fleetyard" for military shipyards and "Foundry" for civilian shipyards.

Wooo.....I like the "anomaly" thing. Suddenly I have more reason to scatter my research labs and to colonize or build orbital habs around godforsaken balls of rock.

I think its like an interplanetary government, but naval instead of civilian.

IIRC one of the uses is for organizing your galactic map, but that only starts mattering once you've settled dozens of systems.

OK, what's an interplanetary government?

In this case I'm pretty sure it's specifically related to your total naval OOB; you can organize fleets into sectors (so for example you could have the 4th Cruiser Group [Sol] and the 4th Cruiser Group [Epsilon Eridani]). Not that anyone bothers with making organizational tables, even for AAR campaigns.

Are we talking about the sector commands you get when you research improved command and control? As far as I know, those let you define sectors (groups of systems) and assign civilian administrators to those sectors, granting their bonuses to all bodies in the sector they control.

Yeah! ha ha....boy, that sure would...be...silly.
>_>
<_<

I do that.

The facility called sector command.
Sector commands act like an extra layer of government above the planetary governor. Everything in the system where it's built is automatically in that sector, plus you can add systems as many jumps away as the level of the sector command (i.e. a level 2 sector command includes the home system and everything within two jumps).

You can appoint a sector governor and receive a portion of his/her bonuses on top of the bonuses from the planetary governor. Mostly for roleplaying and/or a small production boost, but in a large game it could be handy if you have a region of your space that's mostly just mining or maybe a production-heavy area. You could even build Sector Commands in each system and have the sectors all be limited to just their own system, because you'd still get the bonuses to all colonies in that system.
