Check flying dice's sig.

Bought a new monitor instead.  I seriously didn't think that Aurora would be the game that spurred me to make hardware upgrades :P

Are you kidding? I'm planning on getting myself a solid state drive for Christmas just to see if it helps Aurora because of its database nature :P

Why I keep getting a "Message Continued" that says "Years" in my update screen?

Something odd has been happening. I build a second flotilla to protect a new populated system and I notice it's only travelling at 700km/s. All ships in the fleet are built for just over 3000km/s. No maintenance problems, all fully supplied and fueled. No design errors. Nothing apparently wrong whatsoever but it will only go 700km/s no matter what I do.

The only difference between the obsolete design that went the speed it's supposed to (around 2800km/s) and this new ship design is the engine. Which should be faster. I researched a new engine design and swapped the obsolete 10 engines on each ship out with 10 new engines.

Why I keep getting a "Message Continued" that says "Years" in my update screen?

It's just a continuation of a message that was too long to fit in a single event message.

EDIT: Forget the bit about my main battlefleet if you read it before I removed it.

Check the message above/below it (forget which one exactly) to see if it's missing years at the end of its sentence. Message Continue does exactly what it says it does, it continues a message that was too large to fit into the update/events screen, in this case most likely due to some officer with an extremely long name.

Hmmm.. I wonder if setting up a RAM drive and running Aurora from there would help with processing the turns.

Soo...actual strength is defence + offence?

Not quite. IIRC offense is applied when you are the attacking force, and vice-versa. Which is why, for example, you wouldn't use garrison battalions as an invasion force.

I wouldn't do that anyway. I just want to know, if I see the strength of an enemy force, how much do I need to overpower it. Do I only see their defence value? Combined offence and defence? And with my troops, is there a way to see their "strength" in the same the strength of an enemy force is calculated?

I don't recall a conversion offhand, and a cursory search of the Aurora forums didn't come up with anything. It's been largely irrelevant to me, as I tend to just launch orbital strikes until the enemy GF contact is in the single digits.

1. Check the system. Is it a nebula?
2. Check the Task Groups window for the new battlegroup. Look at the Cur/Max speed indicators at the top-middle of the window.
3. Check to see if some random ship with a low maximum speed ended up in the TG somehow.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head, barring a ship with battle damage or something.

Sure, I'll take yours. The game's been giving me errors since I had no pictures at all.

Why didn't you just redownload 5.54 and use the images in there?

...Anyway, here is my planet pack.

http://www.mediafire.com/?3a42i3vl233z96c

Overwrite all files in the planets folder if it has anything. This download contains all original planet pictures that I thought were worth keeping. Some may have been slightly edited.

If someone has had my planet pack in the past (all 12 of you :P) and has updated to version 6+, and is still using that version of my pack, don't. Download this updated version and delete the files in the planets folder before unzipping, lest you end up with duplicate images. I made space for the new official images in this new version.

6.3 changelog thusfar:

Quote
So far:

Added four new buttons to the task groups window. Active On and Active Off turn active sensors on/off for the whole task group. GRV and GEO, which are small buttons next to the Default, Conditional or Escort orders section on the 1st tab will set default orders for the fleet of Survey Nearest Survey Location and Survey Next Five System Bodies respectively (without having to go to tab 2 and select them from a list).

The cargo field on the 1st tab of the task groups window now shows the current and maximum fuel of the fleet in litres.

When one ship destroys another, the kill is recorded in the ship history and in the history of the ship commander. Both ships and commanders will maintain running totals for the tonnage of military and comercial ships they have destroyed. The ship that made a kill is also included in the events log.

Anyone know how I can change the name of the player race? It keeps reverting back to SM Race.

You're depending on CIWS for point defence, which is not too efficient. [EDIT: Unless you have a dedicated area defence ship, of course] Some passive thermals or EMs would also be good IMHO.

I would also have had at least 4 layers of armor on ships of this size, but that's somewhat up to debate.

And, why do you have two different-sized tubes for essentially the same purpose? The logistical difficulty cannot be underestimated. And why so many ASM fire-control? Also you haven't added a default loadout.

Someone else might know better,  haven't had a good game since 5.2.:p
