Well, I guess it's good I didn't get very far in this conventional campaign anyway.

In short: Sol System contains more (and named) asteroids, more moons are habitable, crews now experience morale loss when they're away from a colony for too long, engine and missile design have been completely reworked, and numerous other bugfixes.

I tried it but it screwed up the entry boxes whenever I changed the vertical size. I got GiMeSpace and it seems to be pretty well suited for the job, if a bit annoying at times.

On to actually learning the game. Wish me luck!

Edit: Actually, screw GiMeSpace. It is absolutely awful if you don't buy it, and I don't intend to pay $20 for that piece of crap utility.

See my sig for something better.

Also, I leave for one damned week and Steve releases 6.0!?  :P

Version 6.0 is now out.

Ah finally. I wouldn't start any large campaigns that people have been holding off on for the release just yet though, Steve has said that as there have been so many changes it is quite likely that there will be bugs. Give it a week or so for the more obvious bugs to be discovered and patched.

edit: Just spotted a couple of new things in the changelog since I last checked.

Added a new 50% Size, 50% Tracking Speed option for Beam Fire Controls - this should be useful for anti-ship fighters.

Terraforming is now a Biology tech. - Finally biology specialists have something useful to do.

"Shipping Lines will now design their own ships, rather than using player designs. Those designs can be viewed in the Class window but you can't unlock them. You can obsolete them if you don't wish to view them as this won't affect the shipping lines."

I wonder if this includes Colony ships?

EDIT:"Civilian Shipping Lines will build fuel harvesters in v5.70. These harvesters will (slowly) make their way to gas giants with Sorium and start harvesting. Unlike other civilian shipping, these fuel harvesters will appear as potential destinations when you select Task Groups on the F12 orders window, so you can order your fleets to refuel from them. Refuelling from civilian harvesters costs 1 wealth for each 10,000 litres of fuel.

Once a civilian fuel harvester is full, any excess fuel is sold to the private sector. This also generates tax revenue equal to 20% of the fuel price."

There's no ICBMs in the bases for conventional starts (and you need to click through a buttload of errors).

That doesn't seem too bad. I think I'll run a test campaign and see what I can dig up.

Well.

Right off the bat, two things are apparent: Dwarf planets are still classed as planets; they're affected by the "planet" checkboxes on the system display rather than the "dwarf planet" ones.

More seriously, opening the System Information window generates missing planet image errors and crashes the game. Might be a patch for that I haven't noticed yet.

I haven't seen a patch that contains the missing image files. I just copied and renamed some of the existing images.

That's the simplest way, yeah. Seems like a clumsy oversight though; I'm guessing that Steve already added the proper files and just hasn't updated the download with them yet.

One thing to note, when designing a ship it will automatically add crew quarters as you add components that increase crew number in order to meet the deployment time. However if you remove or replace components leaving a smaller crew number, it does not remove the extra crew quarters.
