I thought the US already uses EMP Shielding.

Electromagnetic shielding is not a reference to lead plates. It's a highly advanced technology.

Why do people keep putting words into my mouth. I am not talking about Lead plates I am not talking about the CIA

Geez man, chill out. You're seriously paranoid. EMP shielding is lead plating. YOU mentioned it. Syntax is important; EMP shielding is not the same as Electromagnetic Shielding.

I appreciate that you can laugh at yourself, but it doesn't reduce the strangeness of some of your posts.

I have no idea what any of you were talking about.

Apparently I'm so serious when I'm serious that no one notices I'm joking when I'm joking.

I think we've been over all of that ad nauseum: text has no emotion or tone, and people will interpret it all kinds of ways. You can't expect to get a clear meaning across to everyone with text, even in the most perfectly worded posts.

Iran to back them.

Nnnnnnnno.  Al-Qaeda is Sunni.  Iran is Shi'a.  Those two do not tend to mix well, especially when you get to the more extreme groups in each (which both al-Qaeda and, to a rather lesser extent, the Iranian government are).

I'm starting to suspect that the terrorists themselves doubt they will get another chance of blowing up a place with real explosives, so they are slowly making our transportation systems as inefficient and crazy as possible by forcing them to adopt insane safety procedures.

I have to say, this has been my greatest fear for a very long time.  That these terrorists are not the moronic self-parodies they appear to be, but are in fact extremely subtle geniuses.  Think about it.  With little more than some det cord, box cutters and easily persuaded young invincibles, al-Qaida accomplished the 2006 Military Commissions Act, got George Bush reelected, trapped America in two endless bankrupting wars, made airline travel an expensive nightmare of imbecility, and have put every American who gives two shits about politics at each other's throats, even the ones who agree with each other.  If you really did want to destroy the United States, you couldn't do a much better job.  Even nuclear saturation would give you something to rally around.

Remember folks, always say you meant to do that, especially the screw ups that work out in your favor.

Hah, I was thinking the same thing. Why do they keep going after planes? I mean, WTF is so important about planes? A single bomb destroying like a $20 M piece of junk and 200 people? Is it because hijacking a plane gives terrorists a feel of power?

Why not trains? Planes are deadlier than cruise missiles, I suppose. Trains have very little security.. A few men with guns can just waltz in and shoot everyone in a subway train. I'd suspect they have trouble finding people stupid enough to do that.

Terrorists are not idiots. Suicide bombers are, but not the masterminds behind them. I'm just wondering what they're thinking.

They look like they're winning. Somehow they tricked the USA to bankrupt itself by attacking a country unrelated to Al-Qaeda. And they didn't find any weapons either, making the whole thing pointless. Al-Qaeda is much stronger these days from USA's lack of diplomacy in the Middle East, and the USA is a hell lot weaker than it was before 2001.

Al-Qaeda loses one idiot and a few thousand in training and underwear gunpowder. America panics, hurts their foreign relations further from racial profiling, loses millions from tighter security. We couldn't bring bottled water in before this.. now what.. we can't wear underwear?

Although I doubt al qaeda planned out all the events of the last 8 years their definitely aiming for more of a psychological impact than real damage. For example if they wanted to destroy trains all they would have to do is take a crowbar to the rails but that would make them look more like delinquent vandals than a global terror organization. At the same time though fear makes people stupid and this has caused more real damage than al qaeda could have ever done through their own effort.

EDIT:
Look at all the recent California wild fires, if some asshole tossing a cigarette butt out their car window can cause that much damage a terrorist could probably make a pretty big mess.

The problem with "theories" about the guvmint pulling strings and shit is that you can just claim anything.  If the reality was anything close to what you claim you dance around in mad revelry and satisfaction.

I enjoyed reading this.

Planes are better targets than trains for a couple reasons I'm pulling out of thin air:
- there's no way for the passengers to escape
- there's no way for outside security to intercede except to shoot the plane down
- the plane's own speed/fuel are totally sufficient to kill everyone on board
- the plane isn't confined to rails, meaning it can be used as a weapon

I mean, look at United 93.  The hijackers' plan failed and they still managed to kill everyone on board.  There's probably also greater psychological value in bringing down a plane.

Also, it's not like trains are totally ignored.

Establishing tone with writing takes skill and specific writing to establish that tone.

While I often try to be helpful, suggestive, or trivial what I say often comes out as assertive, forceful, or bolsterious.
