It's a matter of word choice.  But the great thing about this forum is we're all so damn cynical that trivial and boisterous mean the same thing.

Apparently he's going to be tried in federal court.  Shouldn't a foreign party who attempted to attack US assets be tried in a military court?

I don't know, I prefer not to pay attention to these things.

No, because al-Qaida isn't a government, nor was he captured in the process of a military operation.  Once again, this whole story happened before.  Richard Reid the shoe bomber was tried in federal civil court as well.  Lo and behold the sky did not fall, and he'll be in prison for the rest of his life.

I'm a little surprised by the, so far, complete dearth of right-winger fanaticism something like this should generate.

Inflicting American nudity upon airport security staff is already the greatest act of terror al-Qaeda has inflicted.

Not just nudity, but weird scary nudity, because those scanners do freaky stuff to your face.

Well, there was a question earlier as to how he could've gotten a lighter. There's always the obvious method...

Anyway:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Anyway, I predict that airlines will eventually stop being voluntary. What I mean by this is that any prospective airline passenger would book their seat and hotel room, and then wait. They wouldn't be told of the date their flight would be, but on the day they fly, they'd be ambushed by Airline ninjas, knocked unconscious with a special sleeping gas and placed on the airline. Said ninjas would also rummage through your home to  procure luggage and send that as well. When you wake up, you'd be at your destination, in your hotel room with all your things.

Total safety.

But what if the ninjas are terrorists?  Ya can never trust these foreign assassins...

Hah, if they took the lighter from his pocket, then he'd be stuck with a bomb in his underpants and no way to blow it up. Can't find the bomb? Find the lighter (or the detonation switch)
