Putting it S to F like it is now implies that the S ranks are above the A ranks, who are above the B's, who are above the C's, ect, when that's not really true.

It implies that given the "reliability" ordering, S > A > B ... and so on.  If someone misinterprets it as it is now, I feel that is entirely his or her fault for failing to read the OP.

It also makes finding people much harder then it should be.

In more seriousness, this might be a good idea.  I like the way it is now because it helps one get an idea of precisely what leads to one grade or another, and is a good way to find out which players hold which ranks... which I thought was the purpose of the list, though I think Mr. Person also has a valid point (especially when the ranks are already tied to a totally ordered set, which kind of makes it look like we're giving people bad grades and so on).

I dunno, there's merit to both sides. I would say hold a vote, but it seems more than a touch pointless. I'll just deal with whatever Dakarian decides to do.

I can hold a vote.  However, if it were fully up to me I would change it.

reason: it's easier to do it alphawise.  Having to keep moving people around as they gain/lose ranks is a little messy on Openoffice.  Alphastyle also means I can use the sort function (sort doesn't like working with + and -)

I like it being ordered by rank, since if I'm looking for someone I can Ctrl+F but that doesn't work so well looking for "A" or "B"

I use it to find people for my games as replacement. I message several A ranks at once.

Also I decided to try a compromise:

The board has now been sorted alphabetically up front.  HOWEVER, below it is a spoiler with the list sorted by rank.  Thus folks who use the rank-sorted version will have it, but it should diminish the 'higher rank is better' feeling and help those who search by name. 

Thing is, putting both is STILL easier than doing it the old way.  I used Vlookup for the Rank-sorted list so now all I have to do is update the (easier) name-sorted list.  Even the code is put into the spreadsheet, so ALL I'm doing is cut-and-paste to get it all in.  All I have to worry about is when a new player comes in, but meh, I'll just have to fix the Vlookup if it goes messy due to that.

Oh, well.  I guess that total lexicographic ordering is a lot easier for most people to deal with.

I'll admit, when I hit 'name sort' I cried a little at seeing how UGLY the ranks look.  I actually had to do it twice because I thought I messed up before I realized.."oh yah, it's supposed to look like that.. it's NAME-sorted."

Then I had to go add some data and I remembered why I preferred the name-sorted version.

But meh.. rank-sorted is just so tidy!
