Will nobles still give mandates if they're in a coma?  If not, you may want to consider knocking them down a few cliffs.  If they heal, just knock them off a few more.

I think I've read about a bed-ridden, unconscious noble still mandating shit, which while being hilarious, makes this more complicated.


The way I use of avoiding this is so easy that it might be even considered a cop out: simply never appoint neither a captain, nor a fortress guard. Even your hammerer will stand down unless he's being ordered by your captain (I was surprised at this myself), so that's a surefire way of avoiding any type of punishment.
