Frelock and Dwarves of Mountains:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Haika, and Mermen of the seaside:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

As you can see turns will be done when I have time, and not when everybody posts their actions.
So RAM and Archangel get on here or you'll never catch up with others  ;)

I watch the dwarf by the water, and see what he's thinking.

I put "eat" into the mind of the dwarf with the plant.
I put "build" into the mind of the dwarf with the stick.
I put "fortify" into the mind of the guard in the south.
I put "collect" into the minds of 2 other dwarves.
Finally I put "dig" into the minds of yet another 2 dwarves.

I designate the stones as important
I designate the dirt as unimportant
I designate the wall as important

observation will go to the merfolk with 'grow' in his head.

The three merfolk on the beach get 'Sentry'
The two watching turtles will be left to do what they do, with a minor influence of 'mauve'
The one with 'grow' in his head, I will give the influence of 'plant'
A couple merfolk around the seaweed will get 'gather'
anyone left over will recieve 'learn'

Seaweed is designated benificial, important.
Turtles marked important, benificial.
Branches marked as benificial.
not sure what any of those items are on the map, but if any are shells, mark those benificial.
very deep sea will be marked with dangerous

I think I'll wait for a technology idea before I use my points for now.

/Rock
+/branch
plant
-River
-ocean
+Treefolk

2 treefolk "Grow"
2 treefolk "multiply"
4 treefolk "spread"

I try to observe whoever hasn't been influenced by me.

If any approach Rocks I send "wall"
If they approach Branches or Plants I send "fertiliser".

Mark all glaciers as dangerous for now.
Mark the plants and sticks as beneficial, important.
Mark the bear or whatever it is as beneficial, dangerous.
Put the thought "Hunt" into the minds of two Yeti.
Put the thought "Talk" into the minds of another two; the thought "gather" into all but one of the remainder; and the thought "heat" into the last Yeti.

K, at this point I must admit. The turns take way too long, but are so enjoyable that I'm not giving up on this game.
But I need some open ideas and critique now.

First of all the game should give the player both unpredictability of action and the ability of executing plans. I don't know if I fullfill that well enough. I need more open ways to screw the players over, because if they pick stuff like "gather" or "plant" stuff that are hard to misinterpret, then I'll have a big challenge with the game. Also players will eventually stop getting points from repetitive words. Just saying.

Well, I think it's interesting, but very vague and such. It's hard to clarify what you want your guys to do, maybe restrict a turn to 1 word, 1 designation, and a watch? Then you could put more randomness in other members of the species.

for my turn however:
I will observe the female of the two dancing merfolk.

mauve merfolk marked as important

Seaweed merfolk gets 'Life'

One of the three sentries gets 'Weapon'

edit: yes, I'll go ahead and buy a technology as well with my points, and see what I get.

Whatever the system, the players will attempt to find some way of exercising control over that system.  After all, if a game plays itself, what's the fun in playing it?  So no matter what you do, there's still going to be some players who will try to exploit that system.  However, as it is now, its very difficult to control what the civilization is doing, at least how you interpret it.  I originally expected my dwarf to eat the plant, build small houses with sticks to learn something of construction, the guard to find a more secure position, the two dwarfs to get more branches, plants, and stones, and the last two to begin tunneling into the mountain(or at least try to).

What they actually did was completely different, though certainly not harmful.  If the main problem is the length, then it might be reasonable, as Haika suggested, to restrict a turn to a word (which could be given to any amount of creatures), a designation, and a watch.

Following this format, I will put "net" into the mind of the fisherdwarf, skip the designation stage, and watch the southern guard.  I will also use two points to discover fire (that would be tech, right?).

A couple of Treefolk think about white lowercase "o"s 4 others think "Explore" and the rest all get busy "Absorb"ing.

Yeah, thanks for the ideas, I just might do that.

EDIT: So, it looks like the lack of understanding between the game and players is enough for the random factor? It's reasonable dare I say.
I'll do this turn normally and then the next with 1 thought 1 designation and 1 observation among any number of objects.

(Also Frelock: Fire is indeed on the list lucky you, but if anybody attempts to discover something that isn't, then one gets a random idea from the subtype instead)

Turn well, in about 12 hours...
In the meantime:
Frelock gets: Fire technology idea (your people know about fire, they will start fires, use it in more complicated actions if the opportunity presented itself and so forth)

Haika gets: (1d10:4) Craft technology idea (Your people get the bigger picture about items, so they will craft, create and combine items when needed)

Known ideas on the technology list:
-fire
-...
-...
-craft
-...
-...
-...
-...
-...
-...

I shall use my points to get a tech idea.

put the thought "Weapon" into the minds of the two Yeti with sticks; the thought "explore" into two of the ones near the bear; and the thought "friends" into the three that are huddling together.

I will watch the two Yeti that I've left alone.

Small patch of ice to the North-West is changed to beneficial, unimportant.
The Yeti next to the bear thinks "kill". He will be observed.
