Ah, every game is the same?
Like..you have to repair Life Support before time runs out?

That was pretty fun. Obviously not very replayable as it is, but it's just a taste. That's my Tax dollars at work, and I like it!

I know it's unrealistic, but I can't help but imagine little bearded babies for dwarves. In my mind, they come out of the womb fully bearded. That's how the mother carries them around, too, she just drags them around by the beard or ties it to her belt. When the father's on duty, he just ties their beards together and the baby just kind of hangs there, swinging to and fro with Urist McDaddy's movements.

Well, like every time I sign into an MMO, I was interrupted by inane shit ever other minute, so everyone died.  I'll have to try it again when I won't be bothered.

So, does anyone know how to squeeze some better performance out of this?  Because even with the graphics cranked down, it chugs like playing Half-Life on a 486.

What kind of hardware you got? Worked fine for me. Nvidia 260 GTX. Though on low settings it doesn't seem like it's gonna be a very resource hungry game. After all, it is intended for a large audience.

This post is an in-depth explanation for the purpose of anyone who hasn't played the game and is wondering if it's interesting. Or maybe people looking for more explanation of the game than initially given, which is little. Spoilers ahoy because it's a long-ish post.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Summary:Alpha Moonbase is fun the way it is, on the first match we just tried to figure out what we were doing for the first 25 minutes, on the second we actually completed it and were gradually already becoming bored by the end. The minigame gets a bit repetitive fast, as you'll surely notice. With more missions and more minigames this game could be quite interesting, but right now it'll only give you maybe a couple hours of fun-ish tinkering. Hardly mindblowing, but decent fun, if but for a little while.

Free-to-play games are like the fountains in NetHack. At first, they look refreshing, but when you approach snakes pour out and eat you.

More than enough hardware to run this, I know that.  But even with the graphics on the lowest settings, the game doesn't lag per se, it's just that my mouse cursor wanders all over all the screen.  Precision control is virtually hopeless, sometimes it won't register a click, sometimes it won't register when I've stopped clicking.

Needless to say, I almost punched a hole in my monitor over the soldering minigame.  And yeah, this had better be either a beta test, or the foundation of a whole load of free content shoveling.

I'm getting this too. It's very annoying.

I played 3 eight minute solo sessions because my graphic card is shit and was probably causing the game to glitch. The fact there isn't anything to change graphically such as texture quality and there not being a 800x600 resolution fucked shit up, too. (Radeon 9600: "HOLY SHIT IT FUCKING WORKS!!!" i said to myself when it started and "Well at least i got 8 minutes out of it" when it started to black-screen crash)

Anyways, the gameplay tl;dr is as such:
It's a decent start... But it doesn't have nearly enough variation between activities, even for a "test" release.

As well, the version of unreal engine they're using is entirely overpowered and overkill for what they're doing with it at the moment. This game could've been done perfectly well in the source engine for fuck sakes; we've all played the "plug the wire into the socket" minigame in HL2. This game is basically the same thing, but with more steps in between. In fact, it's entirely possible to recreate the gameplay in a custom map with the proper logic and entity interactions, no modding of anything needed at all. Also, i've yet to see anything "MMO" about this (lol 6 players max) other then the global leaderboard.
But for now, someone could do a better, funner job with a custom HL2 map. :-\
