I have to admit. The hatred of Elves thing always made me a bit uncomfortable. I'm fine with it, but I can't help but be reminded of real-life racists and the like. I know that they're a fantasy race, and you're all joking, but I... Gah, I feel so strange bringing this up.

The thing that annoys me the most about elves is the short joke they come with, EVERY YEAR.

Would be fun to come with some insults back, instead of just standing there.


Fun fact, most of the goblin-elf related engravings in my fort is about goblins striking down elves.

*sighs* As juvenile as his action was, he does have a point. The whole "ALL HIPPY ELVES MUST DIE" has become as worn down as "just use magma". Perhaps it would be time to find new jokes or revive some of the older, forgotten ones.

I propose that we use a random joke/meme generator. Have the structure of <Verb> all <Non-Dwarfy Noun>s with <Dwarfy Noun>, and a separate database for all. For instance, "Kill all Elves with Magma" may be a result.

I actually agree with not hating elves, sure, they may be assholes when it comes to diplomacy, but they trade, and generally don't interfere with you too much. Elves never really leave their forests except for attacking, and they trade valuable sun berries(Booooze) and rare animals in cages.(Them only bringing cloth is actually because their pack animals don't have space for everything they want to carry, so they take bins first, and then other items. They ran out of space after loading everything with bins.)

Now, goblins, they don't even bother with diplomacy, rarely even bother trading(And if they do, it's worthless junk), they go all over just to fuck up a fort, send thieves to capture children, and just like killing. On the other side, they aren't hippocrites like the elves.

Don't mess with magma though, it has the unique tendency to actually be useful for almost everything. I've even successfully used magma to put out a fire, even if there are usually better ways to solve problems.

I look forward to the day when elves become interesting additions to the DF world instead of one-dimensional creatures that are not only annoying and dogmatic but also ridiculously weaksauce as well.

The persistence of the elf-hating joke is an indication that, for some players, hating and brutally killing elves is the only kind of fun that could be had from them. In other words, they currently aren't meeting their full potential as inhabitants of a fantasy world. In an open world like that of DF, there should be multiple, equally rewarding ways to interact with groups such as elves and goblins; while hatred and massacre should remain options, they should by no means be the only ones. Which I know Toady will be working on, so everything's cool.

Anyway, the greatest FU one can give a troll is to use his provocations as an opportunity for civil, reasoned discussion.
