About Proposal 0004: I just meant that the rule about always having an open passage to merchants (a rule we talked about when starting the thread) could be temporarily delayed for a little while, to take into account possible slimes, fire imps or skeletal scorpions ten meters away from the cart on embark.

About save scumming rules if the Mayor happens to lose the fort: I've never used a previous save (in DF) and aren't about to start now. It simply kills the fun for me.

About the starting equipment: Could we have a list of what's being bought? If it's not much work to do.

Everything we agreed on plus several barrels is what I have brought.

(can easily edit profile then embark)

Ok, we'll leave the discussion of why barrels instead of wood for another moment.

I vote for the immediate embark, pause and posting of the lay of the land so we can start proposing initial site strategies.

...And good luck to our heroic Mayor, let he not find gargantuan zombie elephants two steps away from the cart.

Ya...The storm has caused power problems all over.

I won't be able to start playing until this afternoon (if all goes well).

Embark Location

Valley on right

Magma Pool

Valley on left with brook

Magma Pipe

Preferred fort location 1
It is very close to soil, is easily defendable, can expand upwards to provide excellent marksdwarfs shooting defenses on the plateau right above.

Are there any enemies around?

[Proposal 0005]

I'd like to propose, as initial construction strategy:

A - Open a short 3 wide entrance in a good defensible place.
B - Dig straight to soil (no need to do a 3wide path).
C - Dig a large soil area (10x10?)
D - Create a custom stockpile with all but stone and refuse and put it on the large area.

So we get inside as fast as possible.

I'd like to modify proposal 5 to add this, if I can:

[Amendment to proposal 5]
On the plateau, I make a little thing out of rock with a 3x1 ramp behind several bridges and a few traps built.
This will be our entrance.

Later I can add stuff to make it stronger and more defendable.

Make sure to do it quick, though; the orcs will arrive for tea soon :o

Proposal 5 sounds good to me.  Especially if that rock is obsidian.

I think getting everything indoors should be the top priority, then we can worry about a design defense after all the dorfs and supplies are safely walled in.
