Storey mode
« on: January 25, 2008, 12:24:00 am »

i would like to be able to focus on and follow 1 dwarf.  have the camera follow him and have the messages only tell me what he/she is doing-except for messages that stop play.  Of course, i will have to break away but i would like to assign a button to jump back to my hero when things have calmed down...this would help me form a mental 'story' about ol' Dripius Nosius, who is the world's 32nd worst farmer/mason/janitor and his adventures in Ugly Miserble Depressing Fortress.

Well, hold on there Mr. negative, I think there is a grain of a good idea here. I believe that the basic thoughts here- tracking a dwarf through the fortress and getting more detail on the intra-dwarven level during Dwarf mode- are both good points. These have been suggested in other forms, but this is an interesting way of combining them. I'm not exactly sold on this idea, but it's got good points.

At the moment I think this would be a little dull, but when things like Dwarven social lives get put in properly it could be quite interesting to watch because they'll actually be talking to eachother and stuff rather than just standing around in the dining hall waiting to get a job.

Could be a handy little feature.  Not the most critical thing, certainly, but I could see it enhancing play.

hmmm i think this could be good, at first i thought maybe something about following a npc(i didnt really notice the dwarf part..)from somewhere in the entire world.

Watch it do stuff or it just logs all the things it does then forms it into a little story from birth to death or something.

I think it should give a (detailed?) description of what they're doing.
Ex.:

Lokum Zasitbomrek stops to think.
Lokum Zasitbomrek engraves a dwarf.
Lokum Zasitbomrek remembers the death of Ulthush Sizmunet.
Lokum Zasitbomrek engraves flames.

It would also be useful for combat, to record the normal combat messages from adventure mode.

I think this idea needs some refining, but I like it. I hope that someday our dwarves will have conversations that we can choose to view. What they say would be based on their personalities, and what they say would determine how well they make friends. That could lead to much hilarity.
