Not exactly a siege as such, but I opened the demon pit. Pretty much the entire military barring a few champions on guard was down there to witness it, because I'd hit so much adamantine it couldn't be far off. 6 legendary marksdwarves, 30 assorted melee, all in steel armour. Spirits of fire killed most of them, but they took out pretty much all of them. The last few demons made for the populace, who had been drafted and were running around grabbing copper armour and weapons. Finally, a guy returning from having a drink hacked apart FIVE spirits of fire. With an obsidian sword. Sustaining no injuries.
A while later, three of the survivors went bezerk. One punched the marksdorf-in-training and was strangled by the fortress guard. One recovered. The other went melancholy while on duty guarding the dwarven caravan. The fort survived, but I had about 10 champions left out of 50.

Various useless legendaries and grown children were drafted to make up numbers, and set training. Then migrants arrived in late autumn, and were recruited. The lone marksdorf champion still stands atop the battlements whispering the names of the dead, tears soaking his beard.
Or, at least, they would be were he not dehydrated. Now he just sobs, whispering hoarsely.
