Return to menu after zoom
« on: January 02, 2010, 01:29:02 am »

If you use unit list or stocks list to zoom to something, after you press space you're left where you zoomed to, rather than going back to the menu, when more often than not the later is what I'd want.  It'd be nice if there was either a key combination to return back to the menu (like Ctrl-space), or an init.txt option to always return to the menu when done with the zoom.

I'm sure you're far from being the first to suggest this, but yeah, that would really be nice.

This is the primary obstacle to making mass job changes using the in-game UI.

I agree, that's pretty annoying. There are a few different solutions though, another one would be to let us edit labor* and such-like as another menu layer instead of leaving the menu and zooming to the dwarf*. (*or jobs/building, etc)

To me that seems more intuitive, but either would be a big improvement.

A related lacking shortcut: when you view a dwarf with k+enter, you can't go the the labour and preferences, but have to look up the dwarf in the unit list and go from there.

There is no reaction after pressing v. There's enter (preferences), h(ealth), r(elations) and y (customize), but you can't go to the labour change menu or work dogs etc. (or weapon preferences in last version) from there.

[v], [move cursor over dwarf]

Which is an improvement, but still no shortcut. [k] could refer to that menu directly, making [v] mode obsolete.
