Megabeasts Use Weapons
« on: January 01, 2010, 11:23:03 pm »

After playing Shadow of the Colossus again, I realized: The only thing scarier than a titan would be, well, a lot of things, but a titan decked out in armor and wielding a massive club. At this point the only way to get this to work is to make it a part of their body, but that's sort of awkward and doesn't have the same flavor as selling the potentially artifact bludgeoning weapon.

I'm developing Titans as a small but reproducing species of bronze-crafters.

Should make them quite a bit more threatening.

Would adding the [EQUIPS] tag be sufficient?

They won't actually use anything, even if they have the ability to.

The question is where will they even get the weapon and how will they afford it (or the Civ they extort it from)

Boulder and Raw Material throwing is the easiest for the megabeasts

Though a Bronze Collosus is just as likely to have the weapon be a part of his body (as with Shadow of the Collosus)

If a single darf can build it's own smelter and make an artifact battleaxe within a few years, then imagine what a titan should be able to do ;)

I imagine that the weapon would be a part of the beast as well, that it was created with it.

Or, it used to be a part of a mountain or something, or a tree from a Forest Retreat it destroyed.

(Replying to Neonivek's question about where they'd get/afford the items, since it wasn't clear before:)

But you should be able to.

Provided, ofcourse, you have the steel and the skill.

Beings like Titans would tend to be less completely equipped than a smaller being, but don't they also live longer? So over time, getting material together with skill should be achievable.

Also, it gives lazier giants a good reason to enslave small populations: Namely, to put them to work.

I think it would be reasonable that a size 20 item should require much more raw material than a size 1 item.

However, the right tree trunk would make an effective weapon, and kill dwarfs just as dead, so materials aren't really the issue here.

so size 20 thing cant just use size 4 size weapons or armor but 7 to 9 is not that big a gap Kobolds to Elves, armor is out but large weapons.

haveing them work as Mercenaries for armor and weapons?

i.e. Mercenaries turn up at trade Trade depot, your fortress Broker trys to get a deal.
if hired thay act as one squad of Champions (i.e. do no work, pay for nothing and drink all your best booze) if thay get to Unhappy thay leave,
