I figure a minor happy thought to friends would be nice too.  Even if they long since decayed to bones and missed the primary burial stuff.  I just lost 20 residents to a goblin ambush(my main entrance to my fortress is in a valley, I was roofing it over but waddaya know before the constructors were finished 2 ambushes of goblin bowmen showed up at the top and started raining death.)

Anyway theres no way in hell I'm gunna get them all buried in time considering all but one of my masons is in the death pile, the last mason is in bed with a MISSING LEG(Tantrums + biting natural attack = bad) the carpenter just went stark raving mad and did a swan dive into the magma, and most of the uninjured survivors are on nonstop nurse duty.  Not to mention that all of my miners managed to get injured in some way shape or form and don't wanna part with their picks covered in goblin blood.

I just successfully got past the second wave of tantrums with minimal casualties but almost everyone is unhappy, and even a late burial should create some satisfaction instead of wading hip deep through their bones every time somebody goes outside.

It can be fast fix (dead units are on list forever) but probably we have enough fast fixes in DF. So we will have it with interface rewrite = never.

Another way this could possibly be expanded on for further utility would be the ability to swap remains between tombs, this could possibly result in Fun when the dead nobles notice that their tomb got swapped for one below their station. Perhaps nobles could be an exception to the rule where a simple slab is all that a deceased dwarf would need to be appeased-they will be restless if their tomb requirements are not met. I would also like to see items etc start to get permanently stored in tombs instead of being up for grabs the moment the dwarf dies. This would open up the possibility for tomb robbing later on, and further ways for spirits to become angry if their graves are robbed (either by the player, or by outside forces). Trapping tombs might become worthwhile if that is the case.

Hey Kogut, if you were 1 month earlier, I'd give you credit for a super-necro.
3 years isn't bad, but it'd be better if it was just a few days later, like in April 3rd. Even better if you could pull off the evening of March 29th, but meh.

Still, you get credit for an excellent one anyway.

Did you miss where people called him out in the other thread for not necroing this thread? It seems Kogut can't get a break no matter what he does...

I'm pretty sure that was a +1 rep for good necro.

Actually, yes. I did miss that one, but would have said the same thing regardless. Nobody can catch a break with this sort of thing. You are darned if you do, darned if you don't. This is especially true when you don't acknowledge your own necro. When we are talking about a 3 year old topic version difference also comes into play.

I respond thusly:
Thread necroing, when you have something to add, is encouraged in the Suggestions Forum, since it helps keep old ideas discussed, old arguments are less thoroughly rehashed, and helps organize them for Toady.

I can assure you that anyone who declares necroing is not allowed on this forum will be corrected by me, if not by others, as I have just done.

At any rate, I did add some new content/ideas, so perhaps we can drop the necro-accusations and get down to some constructive discussion?

Not too ironic that a thread about the dead be about necromancy?

I've actually had a problem recently with assigning tombs to important dwarves like founders or heroes but neglecting to add cabinets, so that the volume of clothes they owned in real life gets scattered all over the fort and can be neither touched nor stored due to the ownership tags and the lack of space in the tomb to either lay the clothing or build a cabinet.

Assigning a new tomb would allow the clothing to be temporarily stored somewhere else while I spruce up the old tomb and add cabinets.

Ah yes, an earlier me...a younger me....a me who obviously wasn't fast enough with the old all dwarves inside order.  I'm almost feeling nostalgic.

Anyway yes, I still agree with this.  The ability to assign tombs to the already dead would be handy.  If the body is already in a coffin and needs to be moved to go into the tomb, maybe a minor unhappy thought should apply for the friends with a more 'loves tradition' personality.  And maybe even an angry ghost if the job gets started, but stays uncompleted for more than a couple days.

Gives the player something they can do about all those scraps of clothes that sometimes get littered about with the more sudden deaths that can't be moved because they belong to a dead guy.
