That's rather interesting. The problem with all these kinds of theories and the like on human behaviour is that its a massive pain to experiment with it. Breeding humans as test subjects is rather inhumane, and I'm sure that you would most likely be slapped in jail for it.

That wont stop me though... :evil laugh:

The voice in you head is a chain of nervous tissue that exist in all language speaking people that make a "circle" that runs through the speech, hearing, and thaught centers of the brain. This chain of braincells is what makes language comprehension possible...

Any non language speaking peoples however developes a chain that is based on images and shapes.

Like what I said. I also forgot to mention that someone who is born deaf can still simulate sound in their mind however it will either be unintelligible or unrecognizable to the deaf person not having experienced speech and built up a library of sounds.

A perfect example of this is dreaming. Depending on the depth of your dreaming abilities or your ability to remember what you dream, you'll notice you experience, sight, sound, touch taste and even smell. You can dream your walking when your actually lying down etc... Reality is objective...every person sharing the same experience will still describe it and see it slightly differently no matter how controlled the environment is. What we actually experience as reality is a matter of how the brain processes the information.

The human eye actually inverts light rays when it passes through the lens of the eye and projects an upside down image on the retina. There is a first year psychology test where you wear glasses that flip everything....at first everything is upside down but after a couple days the average persons brain will start compensating for this and your regular perception returns regardless of the glasses. Once the glasses are removed again in a couple days the brain will adapt back to normal. The fact is because of the eyes construction we all actually see upside down but most people will never know this because the brain fixes this before it processes the information.

Fun stuff....

Too bad we only use about 5% of it.

Oh wow this nonsensical urban legend has now gone from "10%" to "5%?" Christ.

News flash: you use all of your brain.

I've heard all sorts of things. Such as 3%, 4%, 95%... but I usually just go with 5%.

Can you back up that statement? Cuz I can't back up mine.

You use all of your brain.  Different functions are allocated to different areas of the brain.  If you only used 5% of it, you could probably have large portions of it removed without ill effect.  I assure you if you remove large portions of your brain there will be many ill effects.

Not to mention, the brain uses a lot of nutrients.  It seems like natural selection would've pruned a large amount of the brain if it were just taking up space.

Actually, we have pruned a large portion of the brain through natural selection. Over the past 10-20 thousand years, human brains and skulls have been getting smaller.

Our brain is our most important organ. Only 10% on average is in use at a given time. It is highly redundant, so that it can adapt and heal from damage. There is a case of a man who had a 3 inch pipe pierced his head, removing about a quarter of his brain, after a few years he recovered and went on to have a successful career, marriage and raise several kids. The reason large chunks of the brain can rarely be removed and have people still function is that the tissue that isn't contributing at the moment is not in a different location, its all threaded together. Stick a pin through your brain and you will most likely recover in time, cut the surface and you may be able to recover in time, cut a big chunk out and it is very unlikely you will recover.

hah... heres an interesting article posted by New Scientist and Reuters. The full information can be found at Journal reference: The Lancet (vol 370, p 262). This is a medical journal so don't poo poo the source please...lol  (link at bottom of article)

http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn12301-man-with-tiny-brain-shocks-doctors.html

Essentially dude goes to get checked up and finds that he has almost no brain...literally. He has an iq of 75 which is below the average of 100 but far from considered disabled or retarded. The doctors estimate he has 50 to 75% less brain tissue then the average person but somehow has adapted quite fine otherwise.

heres a scan comparing his brain to a normal one....the big black space is actually a large fluid pocket that has pressed the rest of his brain out to the edges of his skull.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

interesting read and makes ya wonder

Wow, that's quite an interesting article you've got there. It makes you think of the brain in a completely different way.

A similar thing happens with Synesthesia, where impulses cross over from one of the aforementioned 'loops' (for example, the loop you use to hear) to another one (the loop ascociated with colour). The result is that specific sounds cause some synestehsist to see colours or shapes.
