##Update 2##(Click on images for larger versions)
That's what we get for being crazy. We kept the culture bonus but get some upgrades to our units.
An event occurred where I was given a choice. I could let the harpy live and gain a Great Bard(Great Artist in vanilla), or keep the townsfolk happy by letting them lynch it. I choose the former because I luuurve me some culture. But an unintended consequence is that I set our development back by at least 10 turns because of the resulting unrest.
With the Great Bard, I had a few choices. I could have him instantly research a Technology (Exploration), have him join the city as a specialist, give a one-time culture boost to the city, or start a golden age with him. I choose to add him to the city, giving +3 gold and +12 culture per turn.
Our westernmost scout explored a lair, finding a hidden level. The resulting Great Bard is our second one so early in the game. But since he was so far from my city, I did not feel the hassle and danger of escorting him home was worth the benefits, so I had him discover Exploration on the spot.
Acheron the red dragon is a really powerful barbarian unit that takes residence in a barbarian city. He cannot leave the city but he is a bitch to defeat. When he is defeated, his victor is given vast riches from the hoard that Acheron protects.
You can actually see the city he took residence in, right above the notification. So I wouldn't worry about him much, He's too far away to affect us.
Huzzah! After wowing some primitive natives with our fancy technology, they have agreed that we are deserving of a Settler! The funny thing is that the village was right on Hannah's doorstep. It was successfully escorted to our area and is standing by for orders.
Status:We have now met Tasunke (Of the Hippus), who is West of Ethne.
We are working on Fishing in order to get Octopus overlords as per Deon's suggestion.
We now, thanks to the village, have two settlers.
I will be taking suggestions on where to place the cities.I'll start having larger updates once I get the hang of this.
