Not Getting Quests
« on: December 29, 2009, 05:26:08 pm »

I can't get quests from anyone, anyone as in the "mayor" of the village. I've only gotten a quest once right after i generated a world. Also, how do i get other people to join my squad?

I have the same problem, too. You just gotta be lucky I suppose.
To get people to join your squad, you have to have a skill that's higher ranked than their's.

Quests are:

a) Slay a semimegabeast/named animal
b) Slay a megabeast
c) Assasinate some important guy at enemy's city.

Why you don't get quests:

a) No semimegabeasts/named animals to kill around
b) No megabeasts around
c) There's no war between that civ and some other

So yeah, you must have a good luck at world-gen to get quests.

It helps to stop worldgen extra early to keep more of the beasts alive.

Or you can do overland treks, not using the Travel mode, having to manage water, food, and rest. Alot of people do that.

How do i change my weapons?

BTW, Nice quote Grendus

"Urist's Law: the odds of you striking a useless stone are directly proportional to the number of enemies on your map. "

"Urist's Law: the odds of you striking a useless stone are directly proportional to the number of enemies on your map. "

You have to 'p' put your current weapon in your backpack, and 'r' remove the weapon you wish to use from your backpack.

You can also just drop them both on the ground and pick up the one you want to use as a weapon first.

As for your earlier question about getting people to join you:  They are more likely to follow you based upon your accomplishments.  If you do a bunch of quests, kill a megabeast, or kill a bunch of goblins or enemies of the civ, then they are likely to join you.

However, usually only certain types will join you.  Guards, Peasants, mayors, guildmasters, shopkeepers etc will not ever join you, but if you see anyone walking around that is a skilled weapon user that isn't a guard, like a Swordsman or a Sworddwarf, then they are available to join you.

Hope that helps!

There's one other factor that influences whether or not people will join you - if they're a weapon master and you aren't very skilled, they won't join you simply because you're the one who should be joining them, not vice-versa; level up your fighting skills enough and they'll join you.
