16th Granite 259

The workshops are all up now, and we can start surviving in this wilderness.

Zorgoth is not impressed with the speed at which Jesus is constructing the roof, and so Zorgoth, in a brief moment of NOT wanting to kill everything that moves, decided to help out.

Dermonster has stopped hunting, until the stockpile of all the stuff he has already hunted is properly processed. But he is a very good hunter, and is conserving the bolts we have.

We are cold, but we are not frozen solid... yet. I can't wait until summer rolls around.

25th Granite 259

We were awoken today by Dermonsters screams, as he was attacked by an ogre. Before we could react, he had already killed one of them (or rather, mortally wounded it)

He hit another Ogre with the arrow, but the final ogre charged in, and killed Dermonster.

Construction of our first casket has started, and from now on, all hunters will be escorted with war dogs... (Which should have been done before, but it was an oversight)

Dermonster will live with us always... and the offending ogre has been wiped out. Our resident farmer will replace Dermonster as our hunter.

17th of Slate 259

Dermonster has been buried, and Jesus has taken to the job as the resident priest. His funeral service was top notch...

Dermonsters clothing has also been reclaimed. We will need it to keep warm during the winter, but I don't feel so good about wearing a dead persons clothes... even if he was a armor-mad marksdwarf... it seems his paranoia was needed. Ironically, his armor was constructed as he was in his final battle!

But I can't help but feel that all this is pointless. We have beds, we have something that resembles shelter, but... we are alone, and no-one can think of a way off this rock.

But at least we know where we are. Tally remembered yesterday about a story his parents called "The continent of Nir Som". In this story, the dwarves drained an ocean around an island, constructed a spiked wall of adamantine to keep the inhabitants in, and the other people out, and then left the island. Adamantine is NOT normally found on reefs, which means that this is the fabled land of Nir Som. We are alone... with humans, elves, and goblins. There are no dwarves.

This entire continent is a social experiment on how humans and elves and goblins and kobolds survive when dwarves are not present!

1st Felsite 259

Another death... this time the same hunter, but different animal. A fire imp attacked Elizar, starting a forest fire, and killing off almost all the war dogs. Now we are almost without meat, without two of our friends, and morale is at an all time low...

No more hunting... we will live with farming from now on. As much as we can... as much as we can.

15th Felsite 259

Oh gods... the wall of fire is coming. I didn't expect it to spread, not with all the snow... not with all the snowstorms. And the wall we constructed to prevent the fire coming in is only half completed...

Zorgoth has already burnt, and the smoke is getting to us. Our entire outpost is made of wood and cloth...

Breathing is hard, and Jesus is crying and weeping. Tally... tally has fallen too.

<The next portion of the log has been singed>

It is over... tell my mother... tell her... she will NEVER have my masterful strawberry wine recipe. The bit <The rest of the page is burnt, and the logs end.

OOC:

Note to self: Next time, when adjacent to an open magma pipe, don't hunt. FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS DWARVEN DON'T HUNT NEXT TO THE MAGMA PIPE!!

Everyone burnt. Except Dermonster, who thankfully was killed quickly by the hands of the ogre. At least no-one died trying to get Elizar's singed socks.

Umm... so... what say you people in trying again at this site? Or would you rather go to the peaceful location??

but really, do it again.

this time, give me something that will let me LIVE FOR LONGER THAN THAT.

god, it has happened to EVERY community that i have EVER been in. if it hasn't, it will happen eventually.

i knew i had doomed us all.

incidentally, my dwarf has always been a girl for some reason too.

So are there new signups now?

Working above ground is hard.

Working with only lineage(no dwarven migrants or caravans) is also hard.

Putting them together, is even harder.

When I play lineage I usually dig in, and close the door behind me until I have things ready. With above ground restraints this will be much harder. No hunting is good, a serene or calm area is good as well, but can end up being boring while waiting the 12 years for children to grow up. Get a wooden palasaide up asap. And put a marksdwarf on top set to shoot at any animals that get near. Might be a good idea to put a archery target up there as well.

all that said, FuN is good. :) If you go again, I'd love to take a dwarf, maybe a bone carver with a pair of breeding cows. Animal industry becomes even more important with an above ground fort.

Since the old fort lasted less than 5 months, I will keep the old people so that they can have a fair go, and move to the easier fort location (I didn't savescum, which means I cannot reclaim that last location)

New charactors:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Which means new personalities.

And we embark on our doomed dwarves!

1st Granite 259

I still have sand in my ears, but the voyage is ruined. A huge storm has come down, and forced us onto a reef. Our hull was strong... but apparently, the reef was made of solid adamantine ... which is insane! Our hull had no chance, and we sailed to the nearest set of land before the ship sunk. Zorgoth took command, and started ordering everyone to take the ship, which he was ripping apart with his axe, to a safer location far away. I managed to grab a fragment of adamantine which was embedded in the hull... it is beautiful.

Zorgoth decided to set up base camp right next to the ocean, which I think is a ridiculously STUPID thing to do. After much arguing and fighting, we finally have decided to move the base camp up around a lake, at a higher altitude. This way, we aren't constantly swimming in waves!

Zorgoth has told us all what we were to do. First, we need to construct a massive wall, as we need to be protected against the animals. His plans call for exactly 116 logs ... and we have 80. He promises to get the required logs as soon as possible, and at that, he sprinted off, screaming, and slaugthering the pines everywhere.

That left the six of us. Jesus started to work on the top-left corner of the shelter, and the rest of us started construction of our workshops.

I am worried about the lake we chose. It is big, yes, but it also seems to be steaming. We should cover it as soon as possible... but only until AFTER we have built our walls!

I have aquired 7 war dogs, and I am planning on hunting a bunch of gorillas which have appreared dangerously close to the camp

9th Granite

The gorillas have been moved away, and some of the workshops have been made. Unfortunatly, moving all the gear (which consists of the ENTIRE SHIP) is taking a long time, so production is slow.

To be continued... tommorow

well, I suppose I'll claim the first born, if that's avaliable, who knows, might actually manage to survive until peasant age. 12 years is a long time though...

Let me go pick out any herbs! We need the food and the boozestuff!

Also, five men and two women. I bet my namesake has the first kid :P She seems to be more open one.

i still want to be depressed and complain to others of various members of my family that died soon after a fort got started.

Im sure you'll find some inspiration by looking through the community games forum.

I think Dermonster is the least likely candidate actually. Elizar and Dermonster are on the opposite ends of the GREGARIOUSNESS trait.

Still, there's no dwarf near Elizar on her positive traits.

Gotta love the first try. Everyone dies before the game starts in earnest. I also get to genderswap. Yay!

Though I would have expected to give birth onto the refuse pile anyway.

And so it was, that my dwarf's last words were "Forgive them Father, they do not know what they are doing!"

Obviously I talked about the fire imps.
Also, I laughed at the point where Dermonster died.
