Really, where all all these idiots coming from? Ugh...
:'( you hurt me...
Well, yeah.  You made an assumption about a field of which you don't seem to know much.  What do you expect?
Then just have the teeth that are painfull removed?
That would be idiotic.  By that logic you should just remove all the teeth, given just how horribly crooked they can get (and I've seen them get pretty crooked).

Honestly, nothing should go wrong as long as you keep your teeth clean and you have a competent dentist with adequate tools.  Cthulhu described the tool that tore his tooth fairly accurately:
this hideous medieval device
Maybe not medieval, but it doesn't sound like something a modern dentist would use for such a purpose as removing dental glue.

There is one thing I don't like about dentists; while I suspect that the vast majority are fine people, let's not forget that it's very difficult to see what your teeth look like and compare them to others', and that Dentists are paid to both remove teeth and tell you if they need to be removed. Like I said, nearly all of them are moral and helpful people, but there are a few out there who look at a pearly white mouth and see dollar signs.

I would suggest reporting cow, but he seems to be tiptoeing around the edge of breaking the rules while still being as annoying as possible.

True, but thats not always the case. I once got pushed to get some complicated tooth-fixing instrument but refused. My teeth are just fine, hell their better then fine.

Who exactly are you accusing of derailing topics and insulting people? Other than 'you guys'?

Cancel the appointment. Dentistry is a scam.

Wait until you can't eat solid food or drink anything but lukewarm liquid and tell me that again.

OK, let me clarify:

Dentistry can be very benificial to people who don't take care of their teeth. Unfortunately, dentists are financially motivated to drill the fuck out of anything so most dentistry is a scam.

Also, I could live on warm beer so: point = moot.

Something I'd like to mention for all you "dentists are useless if you just take care of your teeth".  My mouth is proof that that ain't true.  The wisdom teeth in my lower jaw grew in almost sideways.  Seriously, in the x-ray they were practically horizontal.  The one on the right was especially bad, and wound up shoving that whole row of teeth out of alignment, and I'm still due for a root canal because it ground a hole into the back molar.  It never even broke the gumline, so no cleaning would have touched it.

On the whole braces thing, some people need to get it done twice, while others don't need to at all. And for some reason, people hate me when they find out that I'm one of the latter. (My upper teeth are almost perfectly aligned, while the lower set isn't, and even then they aren't that bad. No one notices the lower teeth when you smile, since the upper teeth tend to cover them.)

Anyway.  Later the rest of that cavity came out, so I had a clean hole through my tooth.  A short while later, some more came off, so now I have this sharp, ugly fang in the front of my mouth.  It's one of my incisors, and it's completely broken in half vertically.
I had that, due to an aforementioned cricket ball which cracked the tooth halfway up. A few days later I sneezed and noticed something white in my hand, checked the mirror and half my tooth was gone  :(

You can get it crowned though, which costs a bit, but it's much better than just sealing it off with a filling or leaving it be. If done right.

Technically it was an orthodontist.  I have an even more hilarious story about a dentist.

Ignoring my very first dentist who was insane and removed all of my front teeth (All of them.  Thankfully they were baby teeth) before being sued by the parents of all the kids he apparently did this to and losing his license, another dentist who I really liked because she was generous with the gas :3 gave me a filling in my molar.

For the longest time everything was cool, but it turned out she hadn't properly cleaned the tooth before putting in the filling.  She sealed bacteria inside the tooth, where it lay dead but dreaming until the stars were right.  By "Until the stars were right" I mean until it abscessed.  I have never felt pain like that before.  A kidney stone felt pleasant by comparison.  Nothing worked, oragel just made my tongue numb, cold water made it worse, arcane deals with dark powers were ignored, and I went several months without telling anyone, because I don't like bothering people about my silly problems.  Long story short, my new dentist tore that tooth a new one, grinding everything out until it was just a series of small spikes that hurt my tongue, and then removed it and five other teeth (Three wisdom teeth and two upper bicuspids to make room because I had a horribly mangled mouth).  Good times, man, good times.

Aw man, you have a FANG? I'm so jealous.

You know, the only human genetic engineering I support is the correction of the major flaw that prevents new teeth from growing in. It evolved, most likely, as a way to save resources and such. Now that humans can easily get more calcium that they would by hunting and gathering, and are likely to live past thirty years, only a tiny change is needed to allow teeth to work properly again.

Then, the only dental operation that would ever need to be done is removal and trimming, which aren't nearly as invasive as the other kinds.

I have no problems at the dentists now that they have a new x-ray machine. The old one required you to put basically a metal golf-ball with a plastic covering into your mouth while the dentist lined the machine up with a little appendage that came off the ball. Now you just put this piece of plastic, with some paper in the middle, into your mouth twice and you are done.

I wish they would just use the needle. The mask they use for the gas never fits on my face right and gives me a headache.
