ask people to go to properties for the exe and in compatibility, check the 'turn off advanced text serivices for this program' box
this prevents a crash which gdb catches which for some odd reason is always an invalid memory access to 0x0000BABE, at least on toshiva tablet pcs like mine
it happens in mame at least

DT was never really dead, I seem to remember bartavelle saying he was waiting for the next big release of DF to work on it again. But yes, porting it over with DFhack to d16 is a triumph of the community working together.

bartavelle is the author of the excellent Dwarf Companion tool and is still around, but that is not what this is.  The original author of Dwarf Therapist was chmod, but he hasn't been around recently, due to real life issues according to him.  If he ever returns hopefully he can build on the progress I (and hopefully others) have made in the meantime.

This is really awesome. Glad that someone is working on DT. Connecting it up to DFHack should definitely make it easier to get this thing updated to new versions. Also it works on karmic again!

This was working great, but after doing some Windows service optimization and disabling some services it can't connect to Dwarf Fortress any more. I guess I disabled a service that it needs to communicate with DF. Anyone happen to know which one that is?

PS - I'm using XP.

Edit: Beh, fixed it. Turns out DT was trying to communicate with a crashed DF process. It started working again after I closed that.

Sorry if this is extremely nub (i'm pretty new to linux) but when i try to run DT i get:
./DwarfTherapist: error while loading shared libraries: libdfhack.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

whenever i try running DT dfhack it freezes my DF 40d16 and i don't know why, but i still use the old DT because it works, anyone knows whats going on? and DTHack freezes too

Many people are obviously in the mistaken belief that:

1. You are the author of DT

2. This is an official DT release.

You may wish to put some nice red text at the beginning clarifying your post is not official.

And, i don't have the sources (there is the outdated ones for 0.0.1). So, i can't help you.

Try to run a ''locate libdfhack.so`` to see where are those libs.

hm yeah ok. a precompiled. You must compile the software to get it work... I'm sorry to say that but, you need the sources.

You have to put the included libdfhack.so shared object file in your shared library directory or append the current directory onto the search path.

to do the latter, type 'export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:.' into the command line

It should be noted that this is insecure, but it is convenient!
