I can play right now if you want. Do you have any recent migrants? I haven't looked through this thread beyond the first post, so that will reflect on my Dwarf (i.e., not knowing much about the place). Unless you want me to read it first, in which case I'm totally willing to do so.

migrants have been coming pretty regularly, so just pick one next wave

Okay, cool! I'll be starting momentarily.

[edit] Is it ok if I copy the raws and the save over to 40d16? It's a lot faster for me, and I just can't play at this really low vertical resolution.

I believe all saves and such are compatible, so unless someone corrects me, it should be fine.

Well if COD players all have ADHD, and Minecrafters autism, then what do DF players all have?
Cave adaption.

1st Granite

For some reason, the previous ruler, who saw fit to name himself TKGP, has chosen me as the next overseer of the fort! Well, somebody must have recognized the brilliance in my crafts; the technological mastery which easily outshines the "beauty" of the so-called "legendary" Dwarves. I already have a plan formulating... yes, it's perfect. My rule will be the greatest yet.

2nd Granite

I have given my orders; the miners stopped the exploratory mining, and instead mine for - well, what I want. I also looked at the work schedule. About half of the population was partying in the dining hall! That was unacceptable, so I immediately called a halt to the frivolities and ordered everybody to get to work. (Note: I do not trust the Dwarves here enough to illiterate on my grand scheme; this diary, as hidden as it is, may still be stolen.)

14th Granite
Construction continues; the first three floors are complete.
Elven traders have arrived. I bought all the booze they had.

2nd Slate
Bearded Elf, I forgot to add the detail! The floors are being dismantled as I write.

12th Slate
Some "legendary" clerk has gone all moody. Now he's drawing pictures of cloth, metal, bones, leather, and gems. We have all those items; why isn't he just grabbing what he needs?

13th Slate

The Count and his entourage have arrived. Oh, goody me.
In other news, I figured out what the clerk probably wants: Silk! We have no silk! Armok forsake me, but the previous leaders must be completely daft. I checked the elves, but they had no silk. I can only hope, for the life of this clerk, that the human caravan includes silk.

I don't really have any comments to make, but it's very good so far!

best case scenario...

traders have silk
guy finishes while traders are still present
trade the artifact to them

IIRC you can't trade artifacts.

Edit: and the wiki agrees with me.

13th Slate, continued
The elves have finally left. The Count is already complaining of having no rooms. Needless to say, work has begun on them.

15th Slate
A goblin ambush! Our military is surprisingly competent, mopping them up within four seconds.

16th Slate
Two snatchers were easily killed by the squad of crossbowdwarves. I am quite impressed.
Construction continues.

24th Slate
I have furnished the Count's dining room with some ghastly Microcline and Orthoclase chairs and tables, respectively. My brilliant plan backfires when he seemed quite pleased with the decor, for some reason. Color-blind git.

3rd Felsite
Another two snatchers. This time the military was asleep. The first one got its throat torn out by Mörul's dog. The second was thrown across the room by a brave woodcutter: Bomrek Tishakkûbuk. He (or she?) is going in the military, in Ducim's squad.

5th Felsite
I have another plan. Suffice it to say, it will be awesome.

22nd Felsite
Tombs mostly complete. Going to work on giving accommodations to the Hammerer and Tax Collector now.

25th Felsite
Clerk finally went insane. Seems like he chose to cope by, well, not coping at all. He'll be committing suicide soon.

16th Hematite
The Humans have arrived. So did a Kobold thief. There are probably more, so I'm activating the military for the moment.

I remember there was a chasm and some other underground features on the map. It shouldn't have been difficult to find silk.

Seems to be the way with things on this forum; if an invention doesn't involve death by magma then you know someone's going to go out of their way to make sure it does involve death by magma... then it gets acknowledged as being a great invention.
