Plus those were less 'arrows' and more 'ballista bolts'.

Well it could simply be that the gunship had better bulletproof glass than the little helicopter things.  If I would go through the trouble of making such a big ship like that I would spend a little more money to make sure it doesn't get taken down by a little bit of small arms fire to the cockpit.  And when you think about it, that Na'vi size gun that managed to shoot through the glass wasn't no little assault rifle.  It was a big ol' deployable heavy machine gun.  It could be possible that arrows, no matter how they were fired wouldn't be able to penetrate the gunship glass.

Yes, right, let's just commit genocide against an entire planet for monetary gain. That can't possibly go wrong.

The humans are bastards is already pretty firmly established. Not that I'd agree with that approach, mind you.

It's rather a large step from "Humans are bastards" to "Humans are Hitler".

The reason why there wouldn't be any mass-killing on Pandora, is not because Humans are Hitler & Stalin combined, but because Humans are Wolves to eachother. The moment our Company would unleash doom on the planet, some other company would use this as a leverage to get the rights to mine now native-less Pandora. Ergo, there's no profit in being Hitler'y to Navis, at least not for the one doing the killing.

I'm willing to bet the reason the humans didn't bomb Pandora (or the Na'vi anyway) right then and there is because they just tried and failed.  Remember?  They didn't even have a proper bomber, much less bombs, so they had to drops pallets of mining explosives out of a cargo shuttle.  And obviously the human presence was pretty lightweight and (with most of its expeditionary force scatter) underarmed, if they weren't able to fight the Na'vi off again at their own base (not many emplaced guns I guess).

Which is all pretty boneheaded anyway, but I let the movie try to make sense.  The most important thing is the six-year travel lag between Earth and Pandora, and assuming the movie respects any physics at all, that's a six-year communication lag too.

And I'll bet a hundred dollars right now that the main character of the inevitable sequel is Jake and Princess' 12 year old kid.  Probably a daughter.

I'll take the bet. Five internets wager.

In reality the humans wouldn't need much equipment at all. It'd go like Cortez' conquest of Mexico.

Yeah, if the Aztecs were ten feet tall and interlaced with carbon fibre, riding giant Pterodactyls. And then every living thing on the planet tries to eat them.

Seriously, remember guys; the Na'vi lost. It was the Planet that won.

Cortez didn't have anything near the equipment the humans in Avatar did.
