Yeah, if you are going to build mechs in the first place, just put cameras on the outside.

Although those might get broken.

Windows are windows in armor. Aluminum oxynitride, or whatever the actual name is, is one step towards actual transparent armor.

Armour is something that protects you.

So windows are things that protect you, while allowing you to see outside.

But they have arrows remember?  And that's still wrong, any thickness of transparent material will absorb a laser (probably destructively) through refraction.
