Depends. It was fine for me. Although I still liked Sherlock Holmes better.

(Note, I watched it at MCAS Miramar, Sherlock Holmes that is.)

 I'm sure you'll enjoy Ferngully.
 I mean Starship Troopers.
 I mean Braveheart.

 I mean Avatar.

I can't imagine Sherlock Holmes being good based on the trailer

Also I just watched the Avatar trailer and it threw one of my biggest wall-bangers out there, "DNA from the aliens."

yeah, aliens from a different planet would totally have DNA, and not only that, DNA that can be mixed right in with ours

As far as we know, DNA is the basis for all and any lifeforms.

Which may or may not be true.

It's just ethno(species?)centrical to assume that any intelligent life would resemble humanoids though-bipedal, two eyes, ears, nose, mouth, two arms, legs, proportional to homo sapiens... etc

Not to mention there is always a little bit of truth in legends.

It's basically Americans fighting Indians in SPACE.

Well, Jude, on a technicality, that isn't true.  There are a few RNA based lifeforms, but only really simple ones.

And aliens would probably have DNA, but mixing it with ours seems... unlikely at best.

Aliens aren't fun unless humans can mate with them.

Well Aliens could already have sex with humans through Facehuggers...

How else would an Alien impregnate their victim?

I hear the story is bad but the rest of the movie (read: CGI) is fantastic.

I like to think that every science fiction race that looks humanoid is the direct result of Captain Kirk banging his way through the cosmos. He just happened upon a smurf planet during a Star Trek episode and the tall offspring he produced out-survived the local population.

 ...

I'm not seeing how this isn't a viable strategy anymore.

It's geocentric to assume aliens would have DNA.

Of course all known life has DNA. All known life is on THIS PLANET and descended from one common ancestor. there's no reason why replicators would take the same form on a different planet.

They might well have something roughly parallel to DNA, but DNA just as we have it? Of course not. it's POSSIBLE in the same way unicorns are possible.

If we can't assume that aliens have DNA, what can we assume?

When we don't even understand conditions on planets outside of our solar system and having no real understanding of other planets like ours existing, all bets are off and all assumptions we have on life can be changed.

 Unless Kirk is involved.
