You can't sum up an entire movie in less than a page. I agree that at that highest level metaplot it is not all that original, but that is not the level that really matters for most movies, exploring experimental new metaplots is more the domain of writen literature. Where Avatar excels is HOW the story is told; and I'm not just talking abaut flashy CGI, I'm talking abaut timing, design of both physical things like creatures and technology, but also culture and language. Where the movies REAL strength is is in the middle levels, but I think many people only think about absolute highest and absolute lowest levels consciously. ()

But didn't we already discuss how the tech was poorly designed and the Na'vi were an evolutionary impossibility?

You mean plot? Oh, no, it's not very good.
Or acting?

As i said before; there are only so many stories in the world. It's inevitable that some will be told twice.

In fact, over the years, they've been retold billions of times. It's not the story that makes something good; it's how it's told.

Yeah, the number of general plots is limited. But Avatar shares way too many details with Pocahontas.

And if you think Pocahontas was the first time that particular story was told, you are in for a nasty surprise.

And if you think that Avatar's story contains no differences from Pocahontas' story, you've clearly not watched one of the two movies. Or both.

I've got bad news for you neruz, my dear old Mum told me that Avatar was a "Dances with Wolves remake with special effects for your generation".

I laughed pretty hard because I didn't expect it from her.

All i said was that if you think it contains no differences then you've not watched one of the two movies. I've already previously stated, repeatedly, that the story is by no means original.

Jesus christ i am getting so sick of idiots leaping forward into stupid posts like that during discussions on the internet. It makes it fucking impossible to have a discussion.
