Nerve gas. Nukes. Assorted advanced weaponry that a star-faring civilization should have, like anti-matter bombs, orbital radiation guns etc. Most of that stuff weighs less than a helicopter.

And I saw what media did with Iraq and Afghanistan. I also saw Bush get reelected. And I see how nobody gives a damn about all those ongoing genocides in Africa.

While I haven't seen the movie, as I've already said, I have a peculiar feeling you're all devoting way too much thought into the details of this movie.

But hey, just me.

Huh, looking at the pandorapedia, one of unobtanium's usages is antimatter reactors. Would this suggest that they have antimatter weaponry?

Possibly; but antimatter is hellish to handle. It's one thing to use it in power plants, making weapons that use it is something else entirely. Unless you're talking basic annihilation bombs, in which case it's probably easier to just use a bloody fusion warhead.

They're only a century and a half into the future, and they're not exactly star-faring, it's implied that the whole Pandora venture is a pretty major thing.

All of which completely ignores the point that the Humans beat the Na'vi.

I mean seriously, the fuck are you doing? You're advocating the use of Weapons of Mass Destruction on bow wielding natives? What the fuck is wrong with you.

This Subnormality is better than Avatar, and even ties into the whole "Let's nuke the Na'vi" thing, but be prepared for walls 'o text like you've never seen before.

Seriously, when I first read that I saw faint patterns across my vision for like fifteen minutes.

My eyes started hurting half-way into the second big text frame, by the third my vision was going red as they started bleeding, i then woke up in the company of half a dozen eviscerated corpses, their internal organs hanging from the walls like christmas decorations.

Oh man. My eyes will never be the same. That was far more text then the human mind is able to handle.

Once tried to conquer Earth, and succeeded! Too bad it got really, really boring, really, really fast.

One day, we shall all look back on this, and laugh. Sorry about the face, by the way, and the legs, and the eyes, and the arms. In fact, sorry 'bout the whole body.

I have heard that how you see it greatly effects your overall enjoyment of Avatar. People seeing it in Imax 3D say it's amazing, while the latter say its just alright.

i stand by cthulhu, in my opinion avatar just lacks the fur to be a furrry movie. it's not only doesn't appeal to me, but it also makes me a little sick, i'd rather watch the entire harry potter series, it's like power rangers in space coolerified to 21st century standarts, much like what they did with transformers, batman, james bond, sherlock holmes, etc. it may be unoriginal in everything, but that's not what bothers me, what bothers-me is it's absolutelly mainstream.
also, it is not a science fiction film, its a futuristic action film, there's no science in it, science fiction pursues original premisses as the excuse for the narrative, science fiction storys are fundamented on a speculative technology and it's possible repercusions, in avatar, it's only there for flavour, like the inerent environamentalism, the main object in the story is action, romance, pretty blue skins and feline faces, meh, etc.

What?

Yes, an irradiated wasteland is much easier to mine for usable resources. And it's great PR, an entire planet wiped out for some rocks? Wow, share prices will skyrocket!

Seriously, right now you're making Hitler sound sane.

Yes it is if when its not a irradiated wasteland there are smurfs successful killing your people.

And how would anyone know? The only ones on the planet are on the company's extremely large payroll, and for all we know they could control the media and just not report on this in the first place.

As they lack any moral's at all, they could even kill you if you talk.

Note that the aliens in District 9 also win.

I don't have a problem with this.  You know why?  The aliens in Avatar used bows and the pinnacle of technology was USB hair.  The aliens in District 9 had guns that popped people like rotten fruit.

That's why.  They knew what was best in life.  They deserved to win.

Actually, yes.  It's interesting to compare it to District 9, in some ways.  I quite liked the CGI in District 9 too, but in a different way - the CGI in District 9 was dull, boring and oddly realistic.  As in, it was easy to forget you were looking at CGI aliens at all.

It didn't reach the uncanny valley, instead it ran right into the WHATAMILOOKINAT!? canyon. Also District 9 was better because it didn't paint humans as evil, just a corporation. Avatar was like, DYING PLANET, FAILED RACE, NO GREEN ON EATH, yadyadda.
