Broken Brothers Mafia-Discussion

How would you like it if someone else made the rules? Well, here, things could get very broken. The game plays out like a standard mafia game with no power roles-BUT there are two Broken Brothers-one scum, one town. During the night, both brothers come up with a rule-1 hour deathtraps, adding in an extra role, or something like that. Bear in mind that EVERYONE will be under force of your rule, and will know about it. If your rule is far more powerful than your brother's, I will add a penalty rule against your side to the roster.

This will require a very VERY careful hand to balance up.

Along with that, there's a ton of power to 2 people.. what will the others do? 


I'll be able to comment more when I see the design.  For now, it needs a lot of design, including 'what rules CAN be altered and 'to what' and 'what keeps them from breaking the game completely like "I win no matter what" or "All scum are unlynchable" or "every vote in red is recast into a vote against a townie" or "every post longer than 3 words results in a modkill"

But yah, it's a very dangerous idea.

I did say that rules must apply to all players. If a rule is so insanely broken that I can't make a rule to level it out, I just nuke the rule.

The top one can be leveled with "Kingmaker Rules are in use" or assuming the mod takes prime, "The game is played on deadlines."

I don't know what a Skulker is.

Quite simple, really. "No more roles may be added."

I probably forgot to mention that you cannon mention specific people. If you do, I ignore the name. There will be a Cult Leader, but it may not be (townie).

Hmm...I've never been a big fan of CCGs - I mean, I did and still do collect Pokemon cards, but I never got heavily into the battling and trading thing.

By definition that makes you a fan since you still buy them.

The realtering of the rule will serve to keep the game from breaking.  Two more issues show up though:

1. How to make sure that the skill is useful without being overpowering.  The first instinct a player will have is "how do I instawin with this" in ways similar to what we're doing now.  The second thought after a few tries is "How can I actually use this in a way that won't result in an alteration that messes up what I wanted.

we'll need some idea on what the rules are.  Concrete rules so that I can say directly "I can do this, but this will cause me problems."

Whether those rules are told or not will depend on whether this is a Bastard Mod or not, but overall, the rules should exist.


Secondly, the question of 'what does the town do while those two are doing their thing'.  They don't need the same powers, but I can't see people being content with a simple Cop and Doc when two people are altering the very fabric of their game.

They have to somehow compete against each other by only marginally manipulating the variables of the game so as to swindle a win out from their opponent. Plus a good deal of it is still up to the players, too. Perhaps each player takes turns manipulating the rules (but they aren't bound to)?

KWN:DE had that in a way.  instead of rule changes, they had roles they could evoke. 

I would say that the win conditions must NOT be similar to the town/scums ones.  One can have a win condition that would benefit the town and one that would benefit the scum.
