Anyways, it doesn't matter if he apologized or not, or whether it was a misunderstanding. What he did offended people, and the purest intentions can't change that. And once again, it wasn't like he didn't know people were going to misunderstand him and be offended, as it had happened before.

He didn't murder anyone, you CAN'T murder somone over a forum. Nor can you steal or rape. It's WORDS, being permanently cut of from your freinds and a place that you love is WAY, WAY out of proportion even for the very worst thing that is is physically POSSIBLE to do through forum posts. There are bad things that shuld have punishments, but NOTHING deserves a complete blockage.
The forum is made out of bytes, there are no resources to steal or means to permanently cripple someone, it's a post sacristy economy, all the reasons that justifies law in the real world are invalid on the net.

Being banned from an internet forum is in no way a terrible punishment for crimes on an internet forum. Being banned from here isn't going to "permanently cripple" anyone.

IndonesiaWarMinister has been permanently banned again after failing to heed warnings regarding bigoted remarks again.

I'm locking this topic again.  I've been in here before, there's been too much fighting and off-topic stuff, and the topic itself lends itself to arguments and fighting.

Why/ Why not to unban someone who has been permabanned:

For:
1. "Almost everybody" liked him.
2. He was joking.

Against:
1. He was warned several times. This has been said many times.
2. He was PERMANENTLY banned. Look up "permanent" in a dictionary. Toady wouldn't let a terrorist off of a life sentence because he had cancer. This is less, but it's different.
3. This forum is, more or less, Toady's property. Not anyone else's. Toady says who can be on or off his property.

On For: 2, I'd like someone to go into downtown Detroit with a shirt that says (uncensored), N*****S SUCK! See if they care that you're joking. If you make it that long.

Not much I can say for that. I concede.

He certainly didn't if he continued. Seriously, you could say "if they thought they'd get banned, they would have stopped", but you could apply that to basically everyone I've seen get banned from anywhere, ever. There are almost always numerous warnings beforehand.

I imagine the number of places where you do get warned far outnumber the number of places where you don't and it's likely that the places where you have no warning have rigid and strict rules and enforcers, something you'd hope we wouldn't have to implement here due to misbehaviour.

Being warned once or twice isent enough to count as "where you do get warned". Expecially for more active posters or those who have been around for over a year. That should probably leave you with quite a few sites.

Yanlin was warned eleven times before he was finally banned, which apparently was the record, so I'll bet IWM got those five or six.

Toady One's decisions are just and fair.  His word is law, so don't try arguing if you think otherwise.  Just be glad that Toady One is a cool dude, and not like some other admins I know about.
