Dwarf Fortress is making me a bad person. >_>

Spoiler: Dwarven Atom Smasher! (click to show/hide)

So, I had some peasant claim my masonry workshop in a fey mood go insane because I don't have any cut gems. She ran around throwing clothes everywhere until I caught her in my huge Dwarven Atom Smasher that guards the front gate and crushed her out of existence.

Reading through my other dwarves' statuses, it turns out she left behind a husband, two kids, and three close friends, who all had to put up with her being lost to an accident, dying, and decaying. (Apparently being smashed out of existence does all of these things. Everybody who knew her gets three bad thoughts! Ouch!)

All that and I was still more sad about the cat that got caught in the DAS with her. That was somebody's pet! T_T

As far as traps go, that is pretty sweet.

Oh yeah, I love this one. It was actually pretty easy to make too. All you need is a bunch of stone and a mechanic's shop.

She was somebody's mother, somebody's daughter, somebody's wife, somebody's sister, somebody's friend, somebody's mistress... oh wait nevermind, though honestly I only feel bad about losing dwarves from a perfectionist's point of view of never liking to lose dwarves. You rarely ever feel attached to dwarves unless they are significant, done something outstanding or are one of your earlier dwarves such as one of the first 7 (i rarely feel attached to those guys personally though)

Interestingly this design could be adapted too make it immune to building destroyers entirely and not exploit AI's door problems

It gave me 56 dwarves to reclaim with... I'm hoping the game is just being nice to me...

Compared to other players you're not that bad:

Discussing (and implementating) a system where mermaids are captured and bred , and then their children are killed for bones.

Flooding the surrounding countryside with lava bi-anually

Purposely flooding the fort with magma to solve a tantrum spiral

if those few examples don;t make ya feel better read this topic: http://www.bay12games.com/forum/index.php?topic=27591.0

And, they came. My fingers tingled, my nose twitched and my toes tickled... they came around the corner, over my bridge... Into my courtyard... Onto my trade depot...

Then everything near it exploded in a cloud of blood.

somebody's husband

:facepalm:  ::)

Sorry was sleepy this morning =P

Also the mermaids thing seems to be heralded as one of the worst things to come out the community =P or at least is heralded with the greatest frequency

Ooh, I like the sound of that. Any suggestions?

Haha, yes. I read Boatmurdered. It was awesome.

To be clear guys, I'm not that sad about the dwarf. I'm mostly unhappy that I squished somebody's kitty... :( *lol*

If you shy away from harming cats, then you risk a catsplosion that will consume your FPS

have you tried that trap on a invader? because invaders claim doors that they go though  making them not possible to lock. it will still work if you have no other way in to your fort because they will be to stupid to leave but.

Oh, huh. That's annoying.. I guess I'll use hatches instead.
But yeah, it'll work because it's the only way into my fortress.

Hatches do the same thing, I'm pretty sure.  Only way to avoid it is to link the doors or hatches to a lever.
