I'm not entirely certain I understood the rules, tbh. I see "hard point of defence deters a WMD" and "you can choose an a target and a defence", but it's not clear what does choosing a defence do.

You can use, determined by where you allocate Infrastructure, One Target, and One Defense. Allocating Infrastructure into defense is like having a bunker, only it ONLY LASTS that turn. I guess I should have switched the terms around for bunkers and defenses. Using Infrastructure for defense is good when you don't have many bunkers and need to block a bunch of nukes RIGHT AWAY. But at the start and during midgame, it means you can fire less WMDs or less nukes as it were..

Also, another thing I forgot to mention. You can build factories for one Infrastructure provided you have the populace to support them.

Updating the slots.

What does a target do? Is there such a thing as a target without a WMD?

A target is a specific Structure in a specific Nation.

A target is where your WMD goes.

Launch sites can not be targeted.

It's really that simple. You can have multiple targets in one Nation, or multiple Nations, though that'll only become really important halfway through  the game.

Nation A uses 4 Infrastructure in whatever construction applicable.
He launches two Nukes at Nation B for 2 Infrastructure. He is not able to use infrastructure for defense due to this.
Nation B has 3 Bunkers. Two bunkers are destroyed in place of the original targeted structures.

Or
Nation B Uses 4 Infrastructure to build (factories to match population) or (number of applicable cities)
Nation B uses 2 Infrastructure in place of any targets for 2 Hard Points of Defense instead. No bunkers are destroyed due to Nation A firing 2 WMDs at it. No damage happens this turn. Only a bit of construction.

As you can imagine, with so many players, it'll be quite impossible to negate any and all damage if multiple Nations target a single Nation.

Construction can take place during the same turn that you use Infrastructure to either raise some temporary Defense. Or choose targets.

Also Grek, that was a redundant question, the rules state that you need 1 Infrastructure to prepare a launch site. So 1 per target. They also state how many defenses and how many targets you can choose at whatever point in the game you are at.

Also another simple to note thing. All construction takes place before any attacking actions take place. Meaning yes, you can and will build bunkers before the attacks.

That's not really clearing things up. The rules say that building a launch point costs 1 Infrastructure. They also say that you can fire 2 WMDs OR have +2 defense OR fire 1 WMD and have +1 defense. It also seems to imply that doing this costs infrastructure.

One possible reading of the rules has it cost 1 infrastructure to make the launch point and another to launch the WMD, for a total of 4 infrastructure to arm yourself with two launch points and fire both at someone.

The other interpratation is that making a launch point allows you to attack once and that it does not cost infrastructure to attack beyond the cost of the launch point itself. This would mean that it costs 2 points to attack twice, as you do not need to pay both to construct and to launch the WMD.

I would also like to know if we are allowed to opt out of defenses and targetting in favour of having those points of infrastructure available for construction. I assume that we can't, but it's worth asking.

Separate idle chatter from your turns aswell.

Also. You do NOT need to build launch points. You have as many as you can support with infrastructure, depending on the phase of the game.

For every Infrastructure you allocate to a launch point, you get a WMD to fire.

WMD Launch Points are already "constructed" as it were. If you can support the launch (1 Infrastructure for every Launch Point prepared) you can fire that WMD.

Also, yes, you can use all of your points for construction rather than Defense or Targets.
