Death camps <architechs needed>
« on: December 18, 2009, 05:14:42 pm »

I have a problem....as usual...
Weeeeeellll i have too many peasants, and i have all jobs full no extra workers needed. I want to orchistrate some camps for these peasants outside my fort....sorta like what the nazis did......but this will help save my FPS so i need clever ideas for these death camps.
P.S. i dont have magma or a brooke

If you build them over solid ground, pen it in, then drop a roof on them. Or Bridge squish.

Or just pen them up and let them starve, go mad/berserk, and tear each other apart.

You can facilitate this with assigned beds or by drafting them all into the military and stationing them inside the pen.

Or dig out a big pit, with a retracting bridge on the ground by it. Extend & retract the bridge repeatedly, until it shoves everyone into the pit.

Or, Have a room full of spike traps linked up to a lever in the middle, with one peasant as the designated puller of the lever.

I'm fairly partial to stationing them in the Atom Smasher. Efficient, and there's no mess!

Well if COD players all have ADHD, and Minecrafters autism, then what do DF players all have?

recruit them all and then lock them into a circle of walls, filled with alternating spikes and pressure plates linked to the spikes, then set them to patrol round the circle, sit back, and feel ashamed of yourself.

alternatively if you want them to be useful then pock them in a room with mason/carpenters workshops and a hole in the roof to drop raw materials down, and set them making blocks or other stuff till they starve to death.

And, they came. My fingers tingled, my nose twitched and my toes tickled... they came around the corner, over my bridge... Into my courtyard... Onto my trade depot...

Then everything near it exploded in a cloud of blood.

I just draft mine en masse, then throw them at the Goblins when they appear.

I DO give them armor and weapons, though; I want them to be USEFUL before they die.

Or I make them into masons and build megaprojects. I'm kinda disappointed about finding out that building buildings provides so little masonry experience, though.

If your FPS gets too high, just make a new fortress and wait for a better computer.

If you've got the spare hammers, someone posted a while back that they've done this, to amazing effect:

- Build a rather tall, rather slim tower with no sides blocking the roof (6z+ off the ground at least). Put an armour stand there.
- Turn off your regular military and activate all your peasants (as off-duty). Give them hammers.
- Make the tower armour stand into a barracks.

The best part is, the few survivors will gain Hammer skill!

Ah, my Tower of Destiny!

Hopefully your regular military is Champion level or so.  So you'll need to put them 'on duty' so they don't get involved.

Keep in mind that dwarves will dodge right off this tower, in addition to flying off like base- and/or golf balls.

Put the dwarves you want onto military duty, one to a squad. Have them stand on your specially made SACRIFICE PIT and it's many magical hatches that open into SUPER HAPPY FUN LAVA TIME! Throw the switches and that's five dwarves out of the way. Just make sure that you take anti-tantrum spiral precautions!

I took a page from a certain ancient culture's book and decided to create a pyramid-style sacrifice chamber. Put the dwarves you want dead onto the hatches, throw the switch, the hatches open and dump the unlucky sods into the lava river below. Or use a water river if you have no magma river readily available. But that's nowhere near as dwarven.

Optional: Build a slightly higher-up part with a throne on it. Designate it as something a Trap Tester Noble can use to sit on and station two guards next to the chair, one on each side. For added fun, make two more Hatch Covers, you guessed it- Below where the guards are positioned. Bonus points if said guards are also people you want dead. Extra bonus points if the Noble pulls the lever and immediately goes Melancholy. Nothing says Dwarven like self-genocide and a depressed Dwarf-ler.

Ah, that was yours? I'll remember to attribute it next time it comes up (which, this being Dwarf Fortress and all, could be surprisingly soon for a suicidal death tower).

Could lock 'em into a mine and have 'em dig 'til their dead.

I fucking love this game. Someone asks for help with designing a Nazi-inspired death camp, and nobody bats an eye, instead offering somewhat helpful advice.

On topic: if you want to do something more Holocaust-themed, instead of the usual simplistic measures like an atom-smasher or spike traps, you should consider building them a shower like they had in Auschwitz:

1. Make a reservoir of water with a couple of hatches in the bottom, and link those with a lever that's inside your fortress.

2. Make an underground meeting area directly under that reservoir that's only reachable from the outside. You're gonna have to keep it locked so your citizens don't go there, and only unlock it (while keeping all other entrances to your fort proper locked) when those to be *evacuated* arrive.

3. Now, lock the meeting area cum shower and drown them.

In real-life death camps they didn't drown people, obviously, they gassed them, but since poison gasses or even the possibility of suffocating from smoke are yet to be implemented, drowning is the next best thing.

Well, he said he didn't have magma or water, so I didn't suggest anything like that....

PS. I'm a Jew, who is, in fact, going to fly out to germany early tomorrow morning. I could certainly say something about the nazi death camp request, but figured "Screw it. It's DF, where everyone gets to be Hitler." Genocide vs. Elves, Cats, Soapmakers, Dyers, Goblins, nobles... Some for SCIENCE, some for convenience, some for amusement, some for FPS.

Right, forgot about how the OP didn't have any water or anything.

Also, the fact that you can approach the subject of the Holocaust with humor and a certain distance is admirable, especially seeing how your people were the ones primarily targeted.
