Hey, I'm cool with you tying a dog up and shooting it with a ballista if you're short on elves, but there's not need to lie about it to us.

Fill it with magma of course, only after building your noble quarters there first.  8)

You should plan an immense hanging maze spanning z-levels, place some sort of palace-like structure in the center where your favorite dwarves hang out, and then release goblins, megabeasts, nobles, and unwanted immigrants into the rest of it to wander around until they die, trying to reach the top, and freedom. There should be all sorts of fatal drops and traps all over the maze, both filtering out the unfortunate as well as constantly shifting the maze's structure.

It would be the kind of structure where creatures could wander around within for so long that they would have children and die, and then their children would wander around, eventually forming primitive proto-societies, forgetting what the surface world felt like except for legends passed down from their ancestors, attributing their existence in the immense, monolithic, artificial structure around them to the hands of the gods of the Labyrinth.

Using gremlin logic systems, I have done this. It was fun.

No magma.
No nobles.
Water only.
Fifteen Hyper-dwarves.

FINAL DESTINATION.

Build a 32x32x32 cube, filled with tiny rooms, connected to each adjacent room via drawbridge blocked pathway, including z-levels. Place pressure plates in each room in a spot that doesn't get atomsmashed, that open/close pathways. Via an external array of stay-on switches, if need be. Release the kittens, goblins, kobolds, gremlins, nobles, peasants, humans, elves and wild beasts in it.

Before that make your only booze stockpile in the center of it, maybe the depot also, for foolish caravans, afterwards make all access passages one-way.

Technically, if there's water, you CAN make this into a self-sustaining workplace. Just muddy the rock and it'll hold seeds for agriculture.

Personally, I'd design the walls and top in a manner similar to 1:40 of this video.

Hooray for steel verandas!

And also do the stuff in the quoted post.

A Dwarven Colosseum.  All but a few Z-levels should be converted into observation space.  Floor over the chasm area and rig up a mechanism to unleash goblins/beasts/nobles into it.

And possibly a mechanism that allows it to be flooded/drained as required.

There's no chasm. If you look at the picture, you'll see that the whole thing was hand-dug.

Nothing says Completely Awesome like a freaking HANDMADE MASSIVE PIT OF DEATH that you can drop nobles, children, goblins, elves, kittens or cages filled with all of the above down!
*sniff* It's like Dwarven Christmas. Only with a pit the size of Armok. Or, it would be the size of Armok if Armok would stop being 1x1 and start being 50x50.

build a dome inside for all your dwarfs to live in. self sustainable. make one walls on all left, right, and the bottom side connecting the dome to the walls of the pit.

fill pit with magma.

add lever to flood dome when boredom kicks in.

EDIT: shit shit no magma. water maybe?
