Does anime increase Japan's GDP?

Just what the title says. Does Japan profit from anime? Does it increase their GDP?

Need to know for a paper.

Ohhhh I feel sorry for you.

Getting factual information on anime in Japan I can only assume is difficult.

I would guess not, since it is pretty much like any other popular thing.  When things are bad (economically), people spend less on it.

Plus, it's not like everyone loves anime in foreign countries.  It actually seems to be a very small minority where I am.

It is becoming more unpopular where I am. Mostly because there are no good anime shows on the air anymore except for I guess "Pretty Cure" at a time when children are at school.

You're going to have to try a little harder.  Let me ask you this, is the animation industry in America a large enough business to factor into the GDP?  Yes.  Why?  Because the GDP is all economic activity in the country.  And it's not like anime is something three Japanese guys make in their basement, it is a major (perhaps largest) segment of the Japanese entertainment industry.

Out of the whole damn Internet, you can't find one estimate of the monetary size of the anime industry, and compare that to a CIA Factbook description of Japan's GDP and economy?

I'm going to Google it myself, and then not tell you what I find.  Because I will find something.

well i found this "Of course as there is not a body of knowledge to compare this too, these figures may not be an accurate estimation".....this disturbs me.

That's why I said I'm not saying anything.  Except that I found some stuff alright.  At least four good articles, with a solid estimate of the anime sales figures, industry trends and quirks, and its economic forecast, all in the first couple pages of a couple searches.  By the way, anime is a very small industry actually, riddled with labor inequalities and mismanagement, and on the decline since 2006 but due for a revival once the economy returns.
