Might work if I was lucky, but I normally couldn't do anything worthwhile in that area by the time they burned alive. Hence, I got sick of it (that and my desalinators kept putting out more salt water {and yes, I took all the neccessary precautions}).

Fun fact: You embark in the cente of the last biome you were examining - if there's one farther from the magma pipe, you can just do that next time.

This came a day too late for me. My current fortress lies between a caldera and a volcano that are right next to each other (sinister desert/mountain biomes) When I embarked, the wagon was right next to the pit and I still haven't been able to retrieve most of my stuff that sits on the edge. Also, the dwarven liaison decided it would be a good idea to charge the skeletal fire imps when he left.

What comes to forest fires, I used to have a fort with an open pipe. When the imps set the world on fire, all but one of my guys were stranded outside and burned to death (And I had already lost one dwarf to some stupid purple slime) I managed to last until migrants arrived, and was actually able to build a complete two z-levs deep magma moat around my fort. Too bad the orcs came to visit and my lee) I managed to last until migrants arrived, and was actually able to build a completever puller was too slow.

i embarked on a area with three exposed magma pipes , and then reclaimed as the wagon spawned right on a magma pipe , 200 dwarfs , i was puzzled at first , but soon found out when i heard "Prepare For Sudden Death!" and 500 fire men climbed out of the magma pipes, the place was a woodland , with trees blocking every single exit , so , to make a long story short , the 200 dwarfs got raped by the forest fires

and the three magma pipes? that is impossible. at most you can have a magma pipe and a magma pool.
and I suppose you hacked the game to get a 200 dwarves reclaim party?
lots of things sounded odd in your post. I suppose it was exaggeration.

1 : i made the world the complex way , and focoused three magma pipes on one single embark area
2 : there was 500(?) fire men , so i got 200 dwarfs to reclaim(maybe it was that goblin tower , i don't know)

odd. I thought 70 was the max. I'll have to try it a day.
how did you manage to get 500 fire men? did you use any utility? seems interesting setting for a short, very short game.

also, what is that "complex way"? I am sure everybody would like having so many magma pipes... maybe with a river or 2.

complex way , as in using 500+ codes to make a single world

unities? i don't know any unities that can spawn monsters , that happened with no unities

also , that 200 dwarf reclaim was made by random moding

EDIT : GAH , i seem to always use map to replace world , edited to match

such a pity. from your description, that was an awesome place to embark on. I always thought it was harcoded to be impossible to get more than 1 feature of each kind in a map square.

then, I hope you will tell us the details of how you created that wonderful map?

it was a large world , i set the magma pipe number to something redicously high , eight thousand , to be exact , there where still some more magma pipes on the area i embarked on(also , magma will pummel you to death if you do that on a pocket world and embark on a area)
