I guess I meant that it was a very deliberate homage to specific movies, even going so far as to namedrop them.  But it wasn't even well executed as a homage, and the action, plot and characters couldn't stand on their own.  It lacked soul.

 That whole stuff about "homaging B series martial arts flicks" always sounded like a contrived excuse to me.

And yeah, I agree, those aren't exactly "homages". A homage is a small, subtle or not-so-subtle reference to another movie (EG: the scene in LOTR: the two towers where Saruman is preparing a gunpowder bomb). Kill Bill is more like a... cliche storm. A bad cliche storm.

For that matter, why did Inglurious Basterds get so much rave?  It was good, I won't say it wasn't, but I wasn't all that impressed.  It was almost like somebody else trying to make a parody of a Taratino film, with a plot that didn't just revolve around but comprised of nothing but weird cultural and historic details, key phrases, cockamamie coincidences, and foot fetishes.  The acting was the only thing that made it really interesting to me.  Well, that and the constant question of "How is the plan going to fail so that Hitler survives like we know he does?", which I have to admit was a pretty good string-along.

I liked IB because it kept me in suspense.  Most suspenseful movies keep you guessing, but IB was full of genuinely unpredictable moments where I was too caught up in the moment to guess what would happen.  It was extremely effective at creating tension, and yeah, that was largely due to the characters being excellently written and acted, although Landa was a bit of a let-down at the end.

Speaking of movies about infiltrating Nazi Germany and blowing your cover in bars, Where Eagles Dare is really great.  It's interesting to see Clint Eastwood doing his Ultimate Badass thing as a supporting character.

I feel i should add that Shoot 'Em Up is actually an incredible movie. It's clearly an experiment by a director who's gone "Hey, you know how action movies have climaxes at the end that are really exciting and awesome? What would happen if we took like twenty of those climaxes and made an entire movie out of them? The entire movie is just a series of climaxes taped together, think about it guys."

A 10 second clip of the main character walking across a room from Shoot 'Em Up is more dramatic than the entirity of most movies. It's incredible, is it good? Not really, but it is most definitely incredible.

If the climaxes get gradually more intense, then I'm sold.

It's really not a very good movie, but i reccomend everyone to watch it at least once.

As far as bad movies go I could say the normal: Transformers, G.I. joe, Ninja Assassin, ect.

I just recently saw Law Abiding Citizen and loved every bit of it.

I know everyone seems to hate Michael Bay, and i know that he's no Shakespeare, but at the very least give the man credit where it is due; he is a technical genius, and Transformers and Transformers 2 are both technical masterpieces.

This is required viewing for all entities (not just humans) who like movies.  Seriously.  It's a very horrible movie, but it's also a very good movie.  Not Unforgiven good, but very good nonetheless.
