Apparently the xenos and the xenos-lovers win.

That is heresy of the highest order.  Also apparently the mechs have windows and hands instead of hardpoints.  That got the "Mech Experts" at /tg/ in a stir.

eh. Mecha are a horrible idea for combat. Tanks have better armor, better speed, more firepower. Mecha only make sense as generic force multipliers for manual labor, and in that capacity a forklift is usually a better solution.

Considering it's basically Fern Gully meets Halo, I don't know why you're surprised.

Yeah, but Ferngully was awesome.  Hexxus was the baddest Disney villain ever.

It's a good thing they are already blue, too.

Apparantly Avatar has excelent effects but a poor story, still probably gonna go see it though if I get a chance.
Yeah, it looks a bit generic.  Still probably the best thing to go and see over the Christmas break.  Plus one of my friends owes me a ticket to a film anyway, so...

As for giant mecha, it reminds me of the Critical Thinking lesson I had today.  It was a special Christmas lesson, and so we were tasked with trying to put forwards and argue for a ridiculous viewpoint (Mine: "Do we really need lemons in lemonade?").  He proposed the building of giant robots for our military ("Hmm... not as tall as the empire state building, probably, but taller than Nelson's Collumn.  Actually, I reckon Big Ben would be about the right height...").

While I could argue for mecha in general for the military something the size of a clock tower is going to have some serious issues doing anything but destroying an entire town, which unless your at total war with someone else, is generally counter productive since usually you want to make use of the resources afterwords. With the possible exception of a type designed to go tank/mecha hunting I'd think that relating to size mecha would be closer to an oversized suit of bodyarmor mayhaps.

It wasn't exactly a serious argument.  He changed his mind halfway through and decided the giant robots should be armed with giant drills.

I bought a DvD set of old 1950's sci-fi serials. The special effects are hilarious, but the acting is better than 50% of what you see on high-budget films nowadays.

Not only is it not actually advertising anything, it's just copy/pasting word salads about gold, runescape, oil, yuan, and handbags.  It's like a transporter accident combined all the spambots into one shambling mass of online sales.

Sorry to say that he had a Japanimated cartoon drill in mind when putting forth his suggestion.  Hawkfrost is right - he was thinking of Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann.

I was looking in google images for an animated gif of a drill for this thread. Instead, I saw things that now cannot be unseen :(
